I hope you’re right George.

I’m going to enjoy “hating” USC again.

Whose fault is that? Oklahoma is a plenty big enough name to recruit to.

Exactly. He acts like Oklahoma wasn’t playing for NC before he arrived. The problem he had at Oklahoma as head coach was lack of developing talent, shite defense, and overall spotty playcalling.

his problem at Oklahoma was skill players on offense.

Skill players weren't the issue. Games are still won or lost on the offensive line and or the defensive front 7. You just need sideline to sideline, hybrid run stopping AND pass coverage players

So what he's saying is he can only win when he has a team that more talented across the board than his competition.

You understand this is a huge part of coaching right? Absolutely no one is routinely taking less talent and winning big. At all levels, elite coaches are elite at accumulating elite talent.

Damn right, and he’s got skins on the wall. Look, Venables seems like a good enough dude but there’s no logical reason to think he can be a head coach much less a good one.

As an Oregon fan, Venables seems like a good hire. What am I missing? He has a good reputation.

And to really go down the rabbit hole he screwed over Spencer Rattler. Lets assume LR knew he was headed to uscw in Sep - then the season makes more sense. Every game was a struggle - and he had a freshman qb (Caleb Williams) sitting on the bench. How can you get this kid to follow you to ucsw?

Well, knowing what I and so many others saw in games - LR was calling plays that hurt his qb SR. SR is not the most mobile player yet LR called so many long developing plays. This caused SR to scramble all the time and he is more a pocket passer. This also caused SR to throw into double coverage often - because LR didn’t have short routes. Teams learned this and kept 8 back and this caused problems for offense.

Struggling played right into LRs hands and allowed him the window to insert CW in the Tx game after we were down - and he ended up winning it - which gave LR freedom to keep playing him. Even though SR never lost a game last year he never got to start again. LR used that to endure CW and guess who went to uscw with LR

A young coach half tanked a season with a loaded roster to get his second string QB to follow him 1500 miles across the country to a job he knew he was taking before the season started? That is some serious tinfoil hat shite. Welcome to the SEC. You will fit right in.

but I'm not sure I buy it altogether.

I don't buy it at all. Oklahoma is one of the most prestigious programs in the country. If you can't get it done there, you just can't get it done. Same exact thing goes for Brian Kelly and Notre Dame, even though the LSU fans here aren't going to want to hear that.

Notre Dame is actually far more prestigious than LSU is. If Kelly can't build a championship brand behind Notre Dame, he damn sure won't do it at LSU.

These are the facts.

The same LSU fans that would agree about Riley and USC, will abandon logic and disagree about Kelly and LSU. Just watch and see. It's because they're stupid.

You fricking retard.

Kelly didn't come to LSU because it's a bigger brand. He came to LSU because it's easier to recruit and we're more invested in our football than ND is.

They should do a follow up interview with Bob Stoops. Ask him his thoughts on these comments from Riley. I bet his answers would be a good read.

Your public stupidity noted. Brian Kelly went to LSU because it’s the last chance in his life to make a big score off of someone. He had a mediocre record with a consistently weak arse schedule and LSU was dumb enough to pay hugely for that after being turned down by everyone else. He’s 60 years old and set up for the rest of his life. He got his pot of gold no matter what.

This is the answer. Of course he could have, over time, built a team at OU that would have won the national title.

We would all rather be rich and live in Southern California than in Oklahoma. He wanted his family to have a better quality of life. Everything else is spin.

Riley will bail to the NFL, probably to replace Kliff Kingsbury when he gets canned, once Riley realizes that he'll never win anything of note at USC as well either.

Lol, I call BS. Didn't he basically recruit his current USC class while at OU? Oklahoma wasn't the problem in recruiting, it was the players Riley wanted to recruit, i.e. zero defense.

Yep. Riley’s scheme and plan is the ultimate problem. He recruited a team to play in and compete with the rest of the Big 12. You basically out score them. It’s basketball on grass. Look at all the teams…Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Texas, TCU, West Virginia, Baylor (prior to Aranda), and so forth…they all play the same scheme without much emphasis, if any, on defense and pure physicality.

His Baker Mayfield team that lost to Georgia in the Rose Bowl was his best team, imo.

Never been a head coach. Some coordinators make great HC's, some don't.

He has a great resume as a DC, but whether he's a Kirby Smart or a Will Muschamp as a HC remains to be seen.

OU has a good history of taking coordinators and turning them into decent coaches....
