1. Austin is a good, not great college football destination. No doubt worth making the trip.

Fair enough.

2. Traditional tailgaiting is good, not great.

Meh.

3. It's the best BBQ city in the world.

I’ll give it that.

quote:

4. It's expensive.

Nah.

quote:

5. Texas fans are good hosts.

Flat-out untrue. They aren’t the worst, but “good” is inaccurate.

quote:

6. The liberal losers who have moved there in flocks dont go to football games.

Some do; some don’t.

quote:

7. The airport blows.

Not as bad as some.

quote:

8. It's not a college town, and doesn't have that cool college town feel.

Facts.

quote:

9. DKR is a good, not great stadium/atmosphere.

It’s a strange vibe. It feels like people trying to “do” college football, but they don’t know how to go about it.

Welcome to the SEC.

What’s the best restaurant in Austin for brisket?

The answer is Franklin BBQ but the wait is ridiculous, so just hit up Black's if you're not willing to wait.

Other than the bbq comment that’s a very fair assessment.

A fair appraisal. Tailgating has gone from avg to bad as RE around campus has dissapeared. Texas fans and atmoshphere at DKR are too tame for me but hopefully they can get rocking for Bama.

FOX really screwed this game with the 11am start. If you pulled that nonsense at LSU everone would just start drinking at midnight and be ready to go at gametime...it will not be that way here.

There is fantastic food and drink in town but around campus pickings are slim so entertainment should go downtown and south.

OP where would you go right after the game to party and watch other games? Preferably walking distance from stadium. Thanks

Scholz beer garden is the go to answer but it will be nut to butt crowded. There arent a lot of options around the stadium because its in the middle of campus and is bordered by I 35 on the east side.

The cool part about it being an 11 am game is they are going to keep all the food trucks and beer vendors around the stadium after and there will be big projectors everywhere showing the other games. Will be some live music too. The idea is to kind of recreate the state fair atmosphere after the RRS.

This. Your other option is to go to Lil Woodrows or Cover 3 or Pluckers (great wing place). Everything will be crowded so it's pick your poison. The further West you go the less crowded as a general rule.

DKR is more of an NFL feel than a CFB feel mixed in with a lot of cartoonish graphics and piped in noise. It's more of a production. Interesting to see but certainly not a traditional SEC type venue. Part of that is Austin is a large city with lots of money and no NFL team so companies buy up a lot of the seats. Carries over to the tailgating as well, lots of corporate sponsored tailgates. The stadium food is very good though, best I've had and great variety.

This pretty much sums it up. Lots of bluehairs in the crowd too that buy up a lot of the best seats and arent very loud or rowdy. We are hoping some of that changes with joining the SEC. The truth is a lot of our games just werent that interesting.

It may shift a bit but in the end it's about the money and those corporate dollars are going to beat the traditional fan just wanting to be a die hard. The only thing that would shift that would be an NFL team moving to Austin and that simply isn't going to happen. There are worse things, the Texas game atmosphere is nice for sure but it will never be elite.

I say this as an Aggie who lives in Austin and probably goes to a Texas game every other year or so with a tsip buddy who I also take to Aggie games. BTW, last year he took me to Kansas thinking it was a sure win and it was absolutely epic.

Best place for the band to sit?

Proper temp to set the AC in the visitor's locker room?

You lost me -- and the world -- right here.

Your BBQ is nowhere close to being as good as that which is found in places like Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and North Carolina. NOT EVEN CLOSE!

Fair stadium atmosphere (that’s generous).

Lame as a college town.

NOT good hosts (self-righteous though).

Lamest tailgating seen ever for a big state school.

Woke city with good dining alternatives.

Be prepared for mass booing at every call that goes against them.

The shotgun disguised as a cannon is cute.

Didn’t mean for this to turn into a bbq thread but I guess I did go pretty hard in the paint with it.

All I can tell you folks is you need to get you some bbq while you’re there. I’ve been all over the Deep South and I always look forward to the bbq.

Texas treats opponents like shite. When LSU played there in 2019 all our fans, band were placed in the worst seats in the entire stadium. No air conditioning in locker room at half time. It was over 100 degrees. We still kicked that arse. By the way, y’all were supposed to come to Tiger stadium to play a home and home. I guess you chicken shitted out of that one. Cowards. Bama gonna destroy you. Oh well, coach Sark can be found at the bar after the game.

There's probably 100+ rural BBQ spots in the true footprint of the "Deep South" that destroy anything Austin has to offer.

Downvote away, Steers. Doesn't make me any less right.
