How can LSU claim to be the #1 team when they didn't play the #1 team for the national title? They beat the #3 team in both polls that year, but never played the #1 team. USC didn't lose, yet dropped to 3rd while Oklahoma lost by 28 yet stayed #1 despite being #3 in both polls?!
