The biggest difference is Bama needs this LSU does not. Our boosters very nearly ruined a proud program for all of the Bama fans. That is what sucks the fans are the ones who suffer when these pricks decide to cheat.

Saban motivates as a dictator in a negative way. It's never his fault when his team loses, it's the teams fault or the players fault. If they follow Saban's process then they will never lose.

this is a perception only believed by message board non-alabama fans. Saban isn't negative in the way he coaches. he's much like bear bryant. tough to impress and charismatic. he's a great motivator. the team believes in him and his plans. Saban believes in Saban. some people resent people that have faith (in whatever form). Miles may be cool to his players, but he needs to garner their approval because he's not charismatic in those other ways. to me, Miles is utterly un-charismatic. if i played for him, i'd have to find motivation from other coaches or from myself. if i played for Saban, i would constantly blister myself trying to show him i was good.

you can believe that's because i see through crimson colored lenses or not. it doesn't matter. i say it so y'all can read the truth the way i see it.

as far as statistics, there are too many factors in coaches and their win/loss record to compare them. it depends on the time a coach arrives to a school. it depends on how much talent the school already has. it depends on how easy it is to recruit there. it depends on what QB's you have when you get there. it depends on the league you plan in and how strong they are when you get to coaching. it depends on how long you stay at a particular school ... because if you stay somewhere longer, if you're a good head coach, you'll have more and more wins than if you just school swap.

in my opinion, if Bama had never landed Saban, and we had a shot at both coaches to come here... i would WAY, WAY rather end up with Saban than Miles.

Good point. Saban is savvy enough to know who to "smooze" (sp?), but he's the boss and when it comes to the team,he doesn't care how much $ you have or when you played. Not sure that was well received in 2007,but he showed it worked last year and now there are no questions about it whatsoever.

i wonder how many players said that about Bryant. they're drill instructors on the field. in this day and age, where there are a lot of sub-cultures that promote a lack of discipline, i'm sure the amount of players that get pissed at Saban telling them what to do for the first time in their lives is paramount.

Saban isn't doing his job if the players don't get angry at him sometimes. you can't be a sissy head coach.

i knew saban when he was at lsu. my gf at the time worked in the football office, specifically dealt with recruits. there were players at her place all the time using her computer, hanging out, ect. the players wouldnn't comment on it, even to her, when asked how they felt about saban in her apt off record. she would tell me when he came into the office everyone would become very busy and try to avoid eye contact. I always told her who cares if he wins. i think differently now because i'm not 20 anymore. but he is an arse and treats people like shite

so what you're saying is that his employees don't take him seriously and don't do their job how he wants them to?

Oh,good grief. He is saying the guy is a complete horse's arse, but since he's a darn good coach, everyone puts up with it.

Its not that hard to understand. Really.

no. we needed more to go our way on the last day of the season in 03 than 07.

Okie State had something like 14 losing seasons in 15 years before Miles. He set the table for Gundy just like you gumps are so fond of saying Saban set the table for Miles. You can't have it both ways.

that won us a lot of games. he goes for the juggular and doesn't play it too conservative in crunch time. 99% of LSU fans will tell you they like this about Les

i know what he's saying, but it just seems like he's helping me prove MY points about him. now, office work might not be the most fun job to do for Saban. but, my dad's employees were EXACTLY like this... i ended up getting to work for my dad when i was 16 and saw it. i saw how they were when he was in the office, vs coming to the sales floor. they'd freak out real fast and get a lot done. or if he was "off" that day, when he came in, they'd hurry and get stuff done. but half of them would STILL do whatever he asked of them if he asked it of them today.

i don't know. i just see a guy that knows exactly how to get done what he needs to get done. and i see a man that knows how to get players to perform at their utter best. etc etc... word, ok i gotta head out for work now. peeeace.

Let's see..

Miles has a better record at LSU than Saban did.
Miles has recruited better at LSU than Saban did.
Miles did not have to 'rebuild' LSU
Miles does not lose out of conference.

Saban helped 'rebuild' LSU and finished what DiNardo started. This does weigh down his 'stats' slightly.

if your point is that the office people (and players, although they wouldn't admit it outta fear) love to be yelled at, chastised, and belittled then yes, i agree with you

the fear part was if they disagreed with coaches about anything, shuttle runs next day (or some other running drill)

The argument can be made that Les has recruited better since his arrival and a lot of the so called weird/stupid calls resulted in continueing and scoring drives. His success in the calls have been more favorable than bad.

Yeah, I don't know why we keep obsessing over this.

I'll be a little bit different and say that Saban probably did a little bit more for LSU than Miles could have. I think Miles would have had success if he stepped in when Saban did, and who knows...he may have gotten many of the same players like JR and such. It's just that Miles focused on D and put together one of the best D's that the SEC (or the nation) had seen in a while. I think that led to the 2003 NCG. But, it's not like his offenses are anything spectacular. I love watching LSU's offense (not last year) but in other years, where we completely mix it up.

I think both are great coaches...but they each have their shortcomings (no pun intended for Nick). Les will have a good season this year. Our team will be formidable in every game, so I can't wait to hear the media and the bloggers give Miles some credit...he's earned it.
