McClendon has been going on visits along with CWM to recruits (commits) so maybe that was to introduce him as the new OC to them?

Word on our 247 site is to watch for:
Current OM OC Phil Longo
Former OM OC Dan Werner

I know y'all hated him but he's the only OC that ever gave a Muschamp team a pulse on offense (he may be better than he looked). Hopefully y'all find a good replacement. Your offense should look better with players returning regardless.
On a Gamecock board I go to, someone posted some comments by Perry Orth (he was one of our qb's Muschamp's first year before Bentley took over).
Orth said Muschamp came up with the offensive and defensive game plans himself.
That's anecdotal, and I'm not sure how many -hand's removed that is. But would it be surprising?
And if that is true, no OC Muschamp brings in ever, is going to have any real success. And in the end he is ultimately going to fail here.
Personally I don't think a head coach should have the time to do things like come up with game plans, let alone call one side of the ball in a game. That fricker better be relentlessly promoting the brand, grabbing the mike from the sideline reporter at halftime, and recruiting relentless - forever.
That said, Muschamp could certainly run the defense and go a long, long way. But he hasn't shown sign one in his whole career he knows what he is doing running an offense.
For all his good points, for all the matter that in a lot of ways he is exactly what we need, I think this is going to fail in the not-so-long run if he doesn't actually live up to the spirit of what he said when he got hired here.
And to be honest, the coaching community knows what goes on behind the scenes a lot better than we do. No OC worth his salt is going to take a job where Muschamp's hand is up his arse.
And if some guy in Indiana say, is approached about the job, well he might not know the downlow on what happens with Muschamp. But he will know a guy, who knows a guy, who knows the skinny.
I didn't want to believe it, but I am becoming convinced the guys who said Muschamp meddles with offense are right. Maybe he isn't calling plays during the game, but what we see on the field is what he wants.
And as someone posted here (and a few other places), Muschamp teams have never finished higher than, what 96th on offense, in six years?
If he would actually do what he said he would when he was hired, he could do big things here. But I'm starting to think he won't. And what he is doing is not going to work against teams with better talent.
And unless one of the teams on our schedule (Florida, Georgia, A&M, and yes Tennessee now) have a suck recruiter (Mullen might do big things, but he isn't Kirby level or Mayer), that is guaranteed in probably 4 games a year. Ooops, forgot Clemson.
My take anyway.

Even if for no other reason than "no more Florida coaches"

I would take him over Nuss any day of the week. Muschamp has never had a good OC . One day you guys will realize that your problem on offense is the HC and not OC.

It's official now, McClendon will call plays for the bowl game.
OC won't be named until after the bowl game as well.

Because everything posted on message boards is true. Until it comes out of Perry Orth's mouth, and I hear it, I do not believe it was said. Not by Orth, anyway.
As for everything else you said, sure. There's obviously a history of offensive failure as HC while at Florida. The offense has struggled here. I reserve final judgement until we get the next OC in here, whoever that may be, and see if the results remain pretty much the same. If so, he's gonna have to go. I really hope that isn't the case, though. I actually like Muschamp and it certainly seems like our guys think the world of him. I would really, really like to see him succeed here and prove everyone...including some of our own fanbase, apparently...wrong.
ETA: B-Mac is coaching offense until after the bowl game and then the new OC will be announced. There's some chatter about Phil Longo (Ole Miss)and the OC position.

Wish you all the best with Longo and Werner. I think SC could do better but have at it.

That would be my guess, but there is going to be a lot of buzz around Bobby Bentley as well.
It would be shocking if it isn't one of either McClendon or Bentley. There's always the possibility of hurt feelings bringing someone new in, unless it's just a proven, homerun hire. These guys all have big egos.

I'd personally be alright with going with the Run game/pass game coordinators with these two.

I know co-coordinators doesn't always work, but it's been a couple of good years with Elliot and Scott. They were teammates and I believe roommates as well, though, so it's probably easier for them to work together.
How do you think it'll go the first time a "new guy" pulls Bentley for Joyner? I would guess not good.

I think there is a lot of potential with both McClendon and Bentley. They'll get shots somewhere else if not at SC.

Your head coach started those offensive problems. That’s why he was fired and now with USC. You will find out in a few years once he has had a OCs and still doesn’t have an offense.
