All Smart said in that tweet was that how schools develop players into NFL draft picks is more important than the size of NIL deals.

And the reality is that's true unless the difference in what a player can get in NIL is pretty drastic or the player doesn't think they have any NFL potential.

It's not really that meaningful. It's mainly a recruiting statement. He's saying "UGA's good at putting guys in the NFL. Factor that into your decision making as a recruit before just taking a slightly larger NIL deal".

It hurts this forum a lot.
It's been this way since Coach Saban took the Alabama job 17 yrs ago.

For some odd reason, people keep bringing him in; they ask his opinion and listen/consider what the man has to say about college athletics.

They've accumulated a shite ton of hardware between them, and they currently have over 100 players in the NFL.

Mizzou has to overpay for recruits for some reason.

Saban was very Smart in what he said.

Ever since this mess all began, many of us have been sounding the warning bell and raising the flags of danger.

A player being developed and getting paid are not mutually exclusive

Of course they aren't. What's being said is that players and their families' are more interested in starting now and getting paid now than they are in the idea of the player being developed, getting better, and getting real NFL money. Players moving from team to team for NIL money are not likely getting developed like players that go to a place like Georgia (for example) and put in 3 years of work and then moving on to the NFL.

And players are less likely to graduate unless there is some fuzzy math to help them out that other transfer students wouldn't get.

Course, "student athlete" is a farce anymore.

If I can make 20 million in NIL because of potential vs Maybe making it to the NFL and maybe staying long enough to get a 2nd contract. I'm taking NIL all day!!!

I don't think you understand the odds of making it to the NFL. According to the following links, less than 3 percent of high school football players make it to Division 1. From there, less than 2 percent make it to the NFL.

There should be more emphasis for life after sports, but players and their families want the money now.

NCAA HS player stats

NCAA Pro stats

Regardless, the current iteration of NIL is unsustainable and I think this will evolve to something more like the NBA G-League.

I don’t see where Kirby said he was quitting because of player relationships.

Based on the pictures of Kirby lately, he might want to consider taking a sabbatical.

The FSU game? That record setting 63-3 beat down. Kirby looked pretty damn happy to me. I was there and he was grinning like a Cheshire Cat after that fiasco.
He may not like NIL. Few people other than the players do but Kirby will accept it and learn to use it to his advantage. The transfer portal is a hassle to all coaches not just Kirby. But just like NIL he will make it work for him and UGA until changes are made.

So, the coach of one of the NCAA's three pet programs agrees with the coach of another of the NCAA's three pet programs regarding NIL?

Where's my shocked pikachu face?

There is no football program below the bluebloods that have the NIL advantage. The thought of it may be nice and it is what desperate football programs do for future relevancy, but I can't see one example that would suggest any pecking order is changing in college football anytime soon.

Much like everything else in life that becomes pure politics, the solution is simple, the execution is impossible.

Empowered players won't be coached. If they don't like the process, they move on until another coach let's them do what they want.

This is why getting worked up over HS recruiting is pointless. Any kid that pans out is looking for a bigger payday in the next 1-2 years.
