We all know both are superstar defensive players, but how do they affect the game and the quarterback? You have to take into consideration that both teams have different schemes, so there might not be as big of a discrepancy as one may think.

In my mind, Alabama's scheme allows a linebacker like Beckwith to have a better game than Ragland just due to the fact you aren't just having to stop a lot of runs and an occasional PA toss. Unless Harris is planned to throw a lot against Alabama, I don't believe that Ragland puts up as many "sexy" stats as Beckwith. HOWEVER, I don't know if Beckwith has the control of the defense to call plays? Does Les Miles designate a player to do that?

Regardless and stats aside, Ragland does change plays and order the defense from the MLB position I know for a fact. So if Beckwith does not have that responsibility, I feel the two's impact may be equal and/or slightly more or less. To be honest, I haven't watched much LSU this year besides Florida and some of MSU, so I'm just assuming Beckwith is the lead guy based on all the banter that goes around on the rant.

As far as my personal opinion, Beckwith has the better stat line than Ragland, but Ragland provides the background play calling necessary for other players to have big games.

tl;dr: Beckwith's Impact comes from a great personal game, and Ragland impacts the game due to his familiarity and great understanding of Nick's scheme.

Also to Bama fans, I am aware that Nick designated play calling duties to Reuben Foster (if I remember correctly) as well.

Believe it or not, "debo" jones has been our best linebacker.

So I'd answer Ragland, with the caveat that lsu has two elite linebackers on patrol.

Ragland is the best MLB in the country imo.

Beckwith is right behind him though.

I think our defense matches up better against your run game.

I'd say Beckwith for similar reasons. I'm not saying that Beckwith is better, but an LSU defense without Beckwith would be hurt more than a Bama defense without Ragland IMO. And that's assuming that the backup for both of those guys would be "decent."

he good

OP, probably Ragland today but it's nearly a 1a 1b deal. Both will be playing on Sundays. Not just on a team.

Single game...not whole season if that is what you're thinking.

I would love to have either one at Auburn, but I would give the nod to Ragland at this point.

Beckwith has to be more impactful because LSU's LB corp is dangerously thin. Alabama would be okay if something happened to Ragland. LSU's interior play would take a huge hit without Beckwith.

But I agree with the earlier posts about Debo Jones. He's a great athlete and having a bigger season.

Ragland has better people around him so he won't have the numbers Beckwith does. Beckwith is also the guy that always seems to save broken plays this year or the last guy to make the effort. He is just everywhere.

Ragland is really good and it is hard to say he would not do better in Beckwith shoes but give me Beckwith just because I have loved watching him play and I am homer.

edit: looked at the stats Ragland is tearing it up this year

If lsu lost Beckwith our run defense would take a major blow. He is basically our only legit nfl sized lb.
