Head coach at South Alabama. Was DC at Indiana where he was a Broyles Award finalist before he got the USA HC job. Has a lot of connections in Alabama and Gulf Coast high schools. I think it is a good hire with a lot of potential. Well see I guess.

This hire is going to be very telling in terms of how many Alabama defensive players bolt once they hear the news.
Many of these Bama defensive players want to develop and prepare for the NFL and may not see much of an upside with a Sun Belt level coach.

No, they played for Saban, a defensive genius who had extensive connections and experience in the NFL. The DCs under Saban earned extra clout for being picked by him.
Wommack is an unproven coach who has little experience and history with producing NFL players. He might be a good DC, but he’s a really weak hire for a new coach who needed to prove he knows how to build a program that can play SEC-caliber defense.
