Louisville and Miami are the real recruiting stories.

Mainly because I think the OP has been affected by absurd statements like this.

Like an active coach paying players for an agent isn't a huge story.

Holy shite.

I know coaches move the lines of propriety all the time, but this is just bad.

Chuck Person was always my favorite AU player. I'm disappointed that he is just a whore for a few bucks.

It's extremely bad and anyone saying otherwise is delusional.

Obviously, this investigation is still in its infancy, so who knows what they will turn up.

I'm thinking this is a bigger deal than steering one and done kids to an agent. Probably bigger than Louisville paying for a recruit or Calipari doing the same.

These indictments came out of NYC not Birmingham , or LA or Tulsa or Louisville Even if you are going after Adidas, you would do this in Portland where the US HQ is. That is the interesting detail for me.

It sucks. If this came out in a vacuum, we'd be screwed. But the NCAA has bigger fish to fry out of this and Chuck was actively doing harm to our program, so I'll be chilling with my head in the sand until the hammer drops

Yeah, I don't think the target is four coaches. Would think they are looking at something much bigger.

Now they would have a lot of leverage for what they are looking for.

Specifically, two schemes were investigated: one in which recruits and their families were paid to go to particular universities and another in which player advisors were paid to persuade those players to sign with certain managers, agents, and financial advisors.

Chuck was a coach in your program. He wasn't doing anything 'to' your program, which implies he was not part of it. He was a coach on the team. He was part of the program.

You are of course correct that the punishment would likely be worse if it was just Auburn out on their own, but some of the things being said are nothing but sad, wishful thinking.

It is bad. But it is like a hand grenade bad--- we have no idea who gets hit most by the shrapnel right now.

I think these indictments are just the start. I would imagine any plea deal on the part of the Adidas execs would require full disclosure on who they paid and who they worked with.

I suspect the cooperating witness is from New York, and that's why the NYC office initiated the case.

Can't do it. Is the text to a prospective recruit or an Auburn player?

And the guy running the program was the NCAA equivalent of a convicted felon. Pearl is toast.

I dont disagree with any of that, bro. Just trying to cut through some of the fan-driven misdirection being laid down in here for OP who seemed to be asking for a clear explanation.

I am not pretending to know what any kind of punishment will be! Just responding to people (auburn fans) pushing some variation of 'the real story is actually something else besides a coach on our team taking bribes and paying players to sign with agents, the one who was arrested by the FBI this morning for doing exactly this."

Could be and because of so many different jurisdictions involved they could have used the Southern District as the consolidation.

OR.......

With it being done in the Southern District of New York, there is an OC aspect as yet to be announced.

The New York office is the one that investigates corporate fraud. That's why it's initiated by the New York office.

Ah look it's basketball so I don't really care but I thought he paid someone's mom 18,500. Maybe it wasn't an Auburn player because I'll be honest I couldn't name one person on their basketball team and not because they aren't any good it's just I literally don't follow basketball.
