Supposedly, the cooperating witness was involved in securities fraud and other felonies. It is unclear what connection he had with sports.

Yes it is inexcusable.
It would be similar to an assistant coach giving an all American player money (coughHaHaClintonDixcough) and then not reporting it.
I guess the players should just sit out the Louisiana tech game and pay it back.
Then move on.
(I know this is an FBI issue but morally it is the same)

It isn't going to matter why he says he gave the money to the kids and parents to the NCAA
Why do people keep saying this stuff?
It's moronic, of course it is going to matter that the money was from a third party for the third party's benefit. Have people never seen an NCAA case go down before?
Doesn't mean Auburn gets off without penalty, but the NCAA has never been strict liability on enforcement and won't be now

This is going to be different for the involved institutions I'm afraid. The NCAA is basically forced to drop a massive hammer at this point because of the FBI being involved IMO.

I think there will be pressure on the NCAA, but I think it's reasonable to assume AU isn't going to be the biggest fish here. Also, while I'm a little worried that Auburn (prior NCAA trouble, Pearl, not blue blood) would be an attractive "example," it looks like Auburn may have some of the better facts to defend against NCAA violations than other implicated programs.

As far as what I have read it looks like Louisville and Arizona SHOULD get hammered as they seem to went straight to pay for play. We all know that there is a blueblood effect in college basketball though so who knows. As far as AU and Person, at the moment it looks as though Person was acting in his own self interest and not paying players to come to AU necessarily. Not sure how this will effect AU but I would imagine the two players (Wiley and Heron) will lose their eligibility at a minimum. Not sure, just from what I read, that AU will get hammered by the NCAA unless more comes out but at a minimum Jay Jacobs loses his job as AD, Wiley/Heron will be ineligible, wins will be vacated, and Pearl could possibly be fired. If it comes out that parents and or other coaches knew it was illegal or knew what was happening or if players knew then AU will be slammed.

Funny how Mississippi State just happens to find themselves right in the middle of every major p4p scandal this decade.... What a "coincidence"

Miss St Basketball = Ole Miss football

It is going to be interesting to see how this plays out. These guys are cutting deals. They are going to give more names. More schools are going to get exposed.
I will admit...after all the shite State fans have given Ole Miss lately and back a few years with all the Cam and AU stuff, it would bring a slight LOL in real life.

Cam we get a clear answer just yet or do we have to wait?

I dont disagree with any of that, bro. Just trying to cut through some of the fan-driven misdirection being laid down in here for OP who seemed to be asking for a clear explanation.
I don't disagree it is bad, I am just saying we don't know how far reaching or bad it is yet. But yeah, there is no spinning it is very bad. I just wonder if it is the tip of the iceberg.
ASM sports was raided and computers seized---
So is it a bomb or a nuclear bomb?

you're questioning if they knew...paying/receiving money was illegal?

Not to come to Auburn.
Just to steer Auburn players to an agent.
Players who were going to declare for the draft. The sad part is that Person thought that these players were draft worthy.

Well agents wouldn't be interested in having him run funds to players who weren't ever gonna be drafted now would they? Not sure what point you think you're making there. He was a coach on the team running money to players on the team for an agent.

This isn't just Adidas... heck the coaches arrested weren't even at Adidas sponsored Universities. There was a higher up at Adidas that was arrested, but this goes across all apparel companies and universities. The investigation is on going. Anyone that signed a top 100 recruit the last 5 years needs to contact an attorney immediately.
Don't worry OM you are fine on this one

Just responding to people (auburn fans) pushing some variation of 'the real story is actually something else besides a coach on our team taking bribes and paying players to sign with agents, the one who was arrested by the FBI this morning for doing exactly this."
So you think the FEDS spent all of this time, and money, to just bust asst. coaches?
Posted on 9/26/17 at 8:00 pm to MrAUTigers
they are trying to get to Pitino to find out where the hookers are, and then they are gonna ask the hookers where the blow is, and then those low level dealers are gonna rat out the higher ups and we are gonna discover that the Church of Scientology led by Dan Mullen is an elaborate drug cartel
Posted on 9/26/17 at 8:05 pm to MrAUTigers
Because it doesn't say that? Obviously this was part of a much larger sting. In that sense, sure there is a larger story.
But that doesn't mean Auburn's coach paying players for third parties is any less of the 'real' story from an Auburn standpoint, wouldn't you agree? And this thread? Well, that is actually the very angle OP asked about, hence my response explaining Person and Auburn's role. I don't even think I was really that controversial in how I described it having read the document.
