If she hit him or threatened him in any way, I could better understand his instinct to “mush” her. However, she was walking by him with space between. He could have just kept walking without any contact. Why did he feel the need to touch her at all? She wasn’t even in his way.

I think that was a small group of students, and haven’t seen anything contrary to that. It has certainly never happened en-masse.

That seems like a reasonable threshold to me. At best it was a push as he was walking away and she was walking away. The plain physics of that combination makes all this outrage fricking stupid.
