And the fields Fromm thing would have ended up the same way with most, if not all, coaches.

No it wouldn't have. That was a colossal error.

I want Newman to win the job because it's his last chance to make a case to the NFL, but I hope Kirby doesn't start him just for that reason.

With probably the best defense in America and talent everywhere, an elite QB makes this team as good as anyone. Just play the best kid.

Sucks for Newman, he will be riding the bench now.

It would have because Coaches don’t bench incumbent starters that do well, especially without the new guy stealing the job as the incumbent struggled.

Fromm struggled plenty that season. He should have been benched.

I would prefer a process where players can transfer ONCE without sitting out at all (even if they have no reason other that desire to change).

Then, all other transfers are a mandatory 2 year sit out and pay your own way. No exceptions for any reason. Even cancer in both parents.

So you think Bennett would have done better? that was our only option

I think fields should have had more chances, but fromm’s 2018 passer rating was 5th in the nation, and no coach is benching that.

Not exactly, unless you think Eason was "beat out" by Fromm. Daniels and Eason both WON the starting job over their counterparts before getting injured in tbe first game of their sophomore season. Enter the backup who just happened to perform really well and rode out the rest of the season.

Fwiw USC fans loved this kid too and were sorry to see him go. He was just put in the same situation that Drew Bledsoe was twice with Brady and then Romo. He got hurt and his backup turned out to be better than most people expected.

They'll have a good competition in camp now and both of them- and UGA- will be better for it.

Kedon Slovis is a better fit for the TT style air raid that USC is running now.

Plenty? He was the 3rd ranked QB in overall QBR.

30 TD,6 INTS,67% and 171 and
Only Aaron Murray had a after season in
UGA history and he had Mike Bobo as his OC.

Maybe coulda been benched vs LSU but Fields looked lost in almost every appearance vs big time competition.

I actually think Newman losing the job would be a very fitting life lesson/karma. He didn't leave Wake trying to get a chance to win a starting job. He left Wake as their entrenched starter because he felt like he had become a better player than what Wake was deserving of. WF took a chance on him when he was a lightly recruited 3 star QB and the #30 overall recruit in NC. WF clearly did a great job developing him and providing him opportunities and then he rewards them by choosing to play his senior year elsewhere. Sure he graduated and has every right to go play in the SEC if that is his dream. But he also put himself at risk of sitting on the bench. If he came to UGA thinking he was guaranteed the starting job, he is about to find out that there are no guarantees in life.

The first half of that season he was not good. He should have been benched for the second half of LSU.

ETA: Look at the two kids. The difference is so blatantly obvious that I refuse to believe the coaches couldn't see clearly that Fields was better than Fromm at every single thing a QB does.

The dumbest take on anything I've seen on this site.

WF took a chance on him? They take who they can get.

Obviously it wasn't his own hard work that developed him. The parade of NFL QBs that excellent Wake program has produced is proof enough.

All I am saying is he left the girl that brought him to the dance to take a chance on a prettier girl who was flirting with him, but has other options as well. That new girl may end up saying no and he will be leaving the dance alone. He had every right to leave Wake if he wanted to, but the decision may backfire. No one forced this on him so I'm not going to feel sorry for him if this backfires in his face.

He was bad against Tennessee too. Fields should have absolutely been named the starter going into the Florida game. With a bye week to get him ready, the timing would have never been better.

He's better than the program, and their lack of talent forced them to lean on him so much that he eventually got hurt.

He's taking his shot at millions.

I hope he succeeds.

ETA: That being said, if Daniels is better Newman should be the backup. I'd feel bad for him, but the best guy should play period.

He simply didn’t play bad enough to lose his job by any reasonable measure. Kirby made the same decision any other coach would have made.

Passer rating by month:

Sept: 6th
Oct: 14th
Nov: 2nd

And then he played well vs bama.
