Devils advocate, he has a contract with MNF I would imagine. There are a lot of moving pieces, like I said I would love the hire, but would love to see it.

And this will be the final dagger Saban plunges into the hearts of Vol nation, as they tell themselves "Saban said approximately the same thing before he went to Bama. We're getting GRUDEN!" and Saban just sits in his office and laughs and laughs, because he planned it this way eleven years ago.

I’m interested to see where he’d go in the NFL. 10 years is a long time to be out of the game

I enjoy a good UT melt, but the article is from July.

No one but UT fans thought he was a good choice anyway.

Still think they need to call Petrino, now he would answer the phone and talk during the season.

Apparently you know nothing about how the NFL works.

Pro personnel decides who stays and goes. The head coach gives a little input but for the most part he's the personnel director's bitch and has to hope he works under one which listens to his advice.

Most don't.

That's not necessarily true, Gruden may have contractual obligations to ESPN/Corona/etc that could be violated if he publicly announces he's taking another job before a certain date. I don't know and neither do you.

If it was a done deal, the only people who would know would be Currie, UT's financial department, UT's lawyers, Gruden, Gruden's agent, and the Board of Trustees.

That being said, I'm 99.9% sure that Gruden WILL NOT coach at Tennessee.

Vols have been just silly about this. Why the heck would he give up his current $10 million+ job with 0 stress to take a chance at righting the train wreck in Knoxvile? Pride? Makes no sense...

Then it's a lock. Whenever a coach from the NFL says they aren't going to do something...it's just a matter of time until they do.

Greg Shiano did very well at Rutgers. He gets recruiting too. Tenn could do much worse.

Greg Schiano turned Rutgers into a solid team. I think he'd be a pretty good hire, if you ask me.

Tenn gonna get Matt Campbell if they're smart

Jason Candle is having earlier success at Toledo than Campbell did. If you really want to take a chance on a young coach...you might look at Candle as a Campbell without the buyout.

I think Campbell needs to coach at Iowa State one more year. This is only his 2nd season and last year he went 3-9.

The QB is not a freshman. He walked on to Iowa State after a few different colleges.
