I'm in somewhat agreement. Recruiting-wise, perhaps the GOAT.

He recruits talent that will win games. But in games against teams with near equal talent, they tend to get beaten.

He's no dummy though. He just isn't the best in-game manager.

Your post-quality has conditioned me to hate the person in your avatar. I will likely throw a haymaker at anyone who looks like that now, just out of reaction. You are to blame.

I don't see the problem with this. Just watch college basketball and you'll see it's incredibly unstructured compared to NBA play. It's also difficult to master an offense comprised of kids who are almost guaranteed one and done's

It's also a great selling point for recruits. Malik Newman has even bluntly said he loves the freedom Jones Jones' philosophy gives him to make plays. It's frustrating at times, but LSU averaged 74 points a game and was ranked in the top 20 in rebounds and assists last season. You take the good with the bad

I'm no fan of Calipari, but it takes coaching ability and modivational skills to forge a team of "one-and-done" players. I remember Bobby Cremins, during his later years at Tech, often had rosters of such players and was never able to make it work.

He's not a good coach in the traditional sense. He's not going to overwhelm you with an X's and O's game-plan on offense. He won't have complex offensive plays and really won't have a great shooting team. He has had great defensive teams, but I don't consider him a great defensive coach.

He does, however, do an elite job of recruiting top talent and getting them to gel together as a team. He is going to teach them to play unselfish and space the floor incredibly. His defensive scheme is simple. Pressure the ball, and if the offensive player gets by, have a freak 7 footer there to swat their layup in the stands.

He might not be a great coach by traditional standards, but he is a great coach. You'll probably look back at him and consider him the first coach of his kind.

A good coach would not have let the Harrison's try and win the game for them. Had they gone inside late in that game they would have won. UK will be better off without the Harrison's.

The platoon system was more of a necessity but Cal did not develop these guys into 30/40 minute type players. Had he done that they would have been a better offensive team. It worked defensively because you could send waves at teams and the height was evident.

Obviously, Coach Cal is endowed with higher star rated players. But when you factor in the youthful inexperience he puts on the court each year, I think he's a really good coach and did an awesome job particularly this season.
You can't put a premium on experience and solid coaching and that's exactly what the Cats encountered with the Wisconsin.
Kaminsky and Dekker have been in a system 3-4 years having matured physically and mentally. I

Was that your first game to watch UK play? The Harrison's have won them so many games. I think 4 game winners and 2 game winning free throws.

I can think of at least one or two other hog posters who are definitely in the conversation. I'd say of the bottom-10, at least 3 are Arky fans.

Is he a great recruiter? Yes; probably the best in college basketball history.

Being a great recruiter and motivator goes hand in hand with qualifying as a good coach. It's nonsensical to think that a coach that wins a NC and consistently competes for championships is not a good coach.

wat

you just made this up

the #1 thing that drives this style of offense is screens. Do you not see how many ball screens and off the ball screens UK has in a given trip down the floor? I'll give you that late in the game UK was going 1 on 1 a lot.

. It requires no coaching.

the DDM offense gives each player multiple options for what they can do in any given circumstance, depending on how the defense is playing it. It is designed to teach players how to make decisions based on what the defense does. It requires a LOT of coaching.

We're quite happy with Coach Cal and his having won more games than anyone in the country during his tenure here, a natty, and four out of the last five Final Fours. Fortunately for those of you who don't like him, he's not your coach. The burden has been lifted from your shoulders, and now you can rest easy knowing he's on Kentucky's bench and not yours.

I don’t dislike Cal. I just don’t think he’s that great.
I mean how many other coaches would win with that roster?

David Blatt may win an NBA Championship this year, does that make him good? No, he just has the best player in the world.
Was Larry Coker a good coach? Gene Chizik?
