Jalen Waddle shattered his ankle and hobbled all over the field in the national title game in 2020 but was still there for his team.

If he's too hurt to play, Day isn't going to put him in the game. But to opt out of the CFP is bullshite

There's a lot of team activities (month and a half's worth if they beat UGA) that he'd be required to attend if he were still on the roster. Instead, he is focusing on rehab. I get it. He wasn't playing either way.

If so, why announce it now (or at all)? At least let UGA think they might have to face him.

Kirby would have worked that gamesmanship angle so hard if he was in Day's shoes

If he isn't injured then that's pretty selfish.

He is injured.

He's basically saying he's not going to try to rush back from injury for the playoff but will instead take his time to be ready for the draft.

“Opting out” for him is really closer to “I will not be medically cleared until after the CFP final date and so I want to sign with an agent now and get some upfront $$ and enjoy the holidays”.

So waiting les than a month for all of this is just too long?

He was dealing with an injury all year but this leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I'll root for him wherever he goes but he quit on this team.

Really no other way around it.

I'm not judging the guy, I don't know how injured he is, but if there was any possibility that he could be healthy enough to play, then that's pretty lame to sit out. He is one of the biggest game-breakers in cfb.

Hurt players who aren't draft eligible don't just not focus on rehab leading up to bowl games. Sounds like he wants money now and isn't concerned about being around anymore. I just think that says a lot about his character and where his priorities lie. He has nothing to lose by sticking around another month and nothing to materially gain by quitting before the season ends.

Coming right out and letting the whole world know this dude is not playing is the height of stupidity on Ohio State's part. Now, Kirby knows he's not playing and he doesn't have to waste prep time and brain cells trying to account for him. I guarantee you that nobody will get the exact skinny on Georgia's injured players, so OSU will have to account for them no matter what. Day isn't half the coach Kirby is.

This is a bit different. He's been out (and still is) for most of season with a hamstring injury. So this is more him acknowledging he won't be healthy enough in time and is focusing on rehab/draft.

Would be a better look just to act like you are trying to get ready for the playoff rather than say you're going to focus on getting ready for the draft.

The fact that he has been injured is obviously a critical factor. However, I don't understand the need to announce it. There is no need for a university or player to let the public know if the player will play. Why wouldn't he at least be on the sideline for the game?

Maybe because I'm not a GM of a NFL franchise; but Jaxson ohwhateverthefrick doesn't seem like someone I'd want to invest in in a team sport.

Not even UGA fans know the true status of our own players until game time.

Programs should start tying some NIL penalties/fines to this "opting out" shite. If they aren't injured and decide to quit, they should legally be on the hook for a chunk of that NIL money.

Bowl games preventing a real postseason in favor of their own bottom line is a stain the game will be lucky to ever escape.

Were you thinking the NFL sacrificed the bottom line for their playoffs? Have you watched a Super Bowl halftime lately?
