Hahaha what a fricking idiot. It's like these kids think that nobody knows how spoon fed they are.

I'm sure he's doing excellent in his classes.

It's a farce. Football programs don't care if athletes do well in classes, only if they meet APR. The scholarship is done for the sake of 'amateurism'.

They do get a stipend, along with countless other benefits.

Were it such a bad deal then I highly doubt so many kids would be willing to play.

But college athletes willingly compete and can stop playing at anytime. So it's not slavery

Not to mention the 20-40K in tuition every year.

What a jackass

Of course they don't care, but that doesn't stop the student from caring.

If they don't want to take advantage of a free education that's on them.

You don't even have to provide a stipend, at least let the kid sell his memorabilia. Why can't they sell a pair of shoes when there are people out there willing to spend hundreds of dollars for it?

I lol'd IRL.

But seriously, hopefully this kid starts being as brash on the field as he is on social media. I said it on here before. I was watching Tabor vs. Treadwell this year and Treadwell put his dick in the dirt on every running play and got up talking shite to Tabor. The kid wouldn't even look at Laquon. We're getting buttfricked the entire game and by the body language of those two, you'd think it was the other way around. He's no VH3.

Maybe, but this kid was never getting into Florida without football, nor would Richard Sherman have gotten into Stanford or Ryan Mallet to Michigan. It's still a great opportunity.

Bring the other non-revenue sports up to football's standards first, then we can talk about this "slavery"

My wife graduated from college 18 years ago and I just got finished paying her school loans off.

Let them do that for 18 years and see how good they have it

Just unreal..

Tabor put it in the worst way possible. He Is not at all eloquent and was foolish to use the word slavery but I knew many of the players and they were in fact broke. We all make assumptions about kids ethics when they sell signed items and get paid behind the scenes but I don't blame them at all. I know where these kids come from. It's the areas where you make sure your doors are locked when you pass through. I don't blame cam for getting his 250k. For once in his life he was paid what he was worth.

Student athletes bring in way more value to a school than the value of a scholarship. It is an unbalanced system.

And we hear stories of how athletes are steered to certain majors so that classes don't conflict with practice schedules. It is not as benevolent a system as you are making it seem.

I agree that his comment was stupid. But college football is obviously an NFL farm system. They aren't allowed to enter until 3 years after high school. Where can an 18 year old go to play professional football in America?

If this kid doesn't like the system he is free to walk away from that system at any time.

Hell he can quit and just train for the NFL on his own.

This. Some of the NCAA restrictions on free meals, hotel stays, trips, etc. are BS. If a player wants to auction his jersey or accept a booster's offer for a free trip to the Caribbean, don't forbid them from doing it.

This is absolutely false, their talent would be nothing without the school system.

Alabama football in 2014 had a 33 million dollar surplus. That's not including millions of dollars earned that aren't included in that total such as merchandising and mid level tv rights. Since the sec network the surplus will be even higher. I don't see why with so much money changing hands that these kids can't get a 20-30k stipend a year. It would be a big help to some very poor families and kids. These kids by NCAA bylaws can't even have a job through the school year, many have families that can barely pay rent. When I was at Bama there where football players making the University $ but was at my apartment doing laundry because they had no $$. It may not be slavery but it is indentured servitude.

Want to explain what Henry's been driving around in then? Since he doesn't have money for laundry and all that stuff.

How about all of the tattoos? Where's that money coming from?

20-30k stipend is ridiculous. There would be about 10 football programs that could even pay that each year.

30,000 x 100 = 3,000,000. That's a conservative estimate. The overhead for accounting, social security, fica, and whatever else goes into it would make it much more.

Let us know when you've applied more than 10 seconds to this problem.

It is free. They have the right to not play football at all and try it on their own.

They get trained up, S&C, and play a game they love. Not sure why people try to throw a pity party for those who play college sports. I'm okay with giving them a little money, but the bitching and slave comments are wasted on me.
