Atlanta is also split north / south.

NOLA is a rich and poor mosaic with the middle class mostly in the burbs/parishes.

BR in kinda split north to south but has a decent middle class in the goodqood/sherwood/broadmore section.

I’m guessing the north side of town is a different story?

Don't go north of campus or Florida Blvd and you're good. Otherwise Baton Rouge is the place to be. Most of the conveniences of a major city without outrageous cost of living

Correct. Not ALL of BR is a shite hole.

There are some very nice areas.

Stay south of I-10/I-12 and you'll be OK.

The further you travel North, the worse it gets as you enter the "Dark side of the Force."

You're in St George. Nice area.

I’m in St. George. Never not calling it Baton Rouge, it’s literally in EBR.

It’s really not even that bad unless you wander into a residential area north of Florida blvd.

Jefferson hwy is north of the split lol.

Towne Centre & even midcity are fun places to hang out.

There was a drive by shootout in broad daylight on like a Tuesday at a red light in traffic in front of the mall of Louisiana entrance sign.

That was a long time ago.

Spoiler alert: places that have more black people have more violence.

Let me recommend “On Patrol Live” . Excellent live reality TV show that airs on Friday and Saturday nights on the little known Reelz Network.

Baton Rouge is a prominent fixture on the show.

This is the same show that used to be called “Live PD”. It aired on the A&E Network in the same time slot, with a lot of the same departments.

Wokeness drove the chiseled chin production man Dan Abrams off the air for a bit. Seems to have recovered nicely.

There are plenty of places in Baton Rouge that are very nice. One of my favorite areas as far as houses and neighborhoods go is old Hammond right up to old Jefferson. It’s legit beautiful in that area. Go a mile or 2 past that and you won’t believe you are in the same area code. That’s the problem here.

Baton Rouge is a great place to live, IMO. I retired to BR in 2013 after living in the affluent burbs of ATL for 30 years.

BR has a ton of affluent, upper middle class types and neighborhoods. I could take you on a tour leaving the LSU campus and going east to the Amite River and never pass thru an area that is not good--commercial or residential.

BR also has a large swatch of poor areas that are becomming de-populated and have been for awhile.

Sister state capitols Little Rock, Jackson and Montgomery all have the same vibe to me...not great. Each has nice areas, but I really wouldn't want to live in any of them...but outside of the city proper there's some nice areas.

I lived in Baton Rouge for ten years and other than LSU’s campus and the North Gates, the rest of the city sucks.

exactly.

Going south on I-10 from LSU gets richer and richer. going north of LSU gets poorer and poorer. Essentially the old town versus the new.
