It’s time to expand Playoffs

1) Season is already watered down due to so many blowouts by the best teams.Hasn’t been that much drama or excitement with the four team playoffs.
2) Bowl game opt out are here. If that Florida vs Oklahoma matchup was a 8 vs 9 matchup in the playoffs-there wouldn’t of been opt outs.
3) If you want to see upsets or a new team win it all. This is your best chance.
4) More revenue.
5) The current postseason is bad. And I’m not even talking about the playoffs. Going to the sugar bowl does not mean as much as it used if it’s not a playoff game. Time to bring back a meaningful postseason.
11 game regular seasons. Drop the tune up games. 16 team playoff. Let’s have some fun.
Thoughts?

I don’t particularly like the idea, but It’s inevitable so I might as well accept it.

At no point in the history of the universe ever has the 16th ranked team, who inevitably has 3 or more losses, deserved a shot at a national championship.

The best part is the teams people already bitch about being in the playoffs would be almost guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.
The worst part is teams being in the playoffs that wouldn’t deserve a place in the playoffs.
2019 Alabama would have made the playoffs...as much as I enjoy Alabama being in the playoffs, they wouldn’t have belonged there.
So, frick playoff expansion.

The numbers are less relevant to me than your other thoughts, which I agree with. Eight or sixteen team playoff. Ten to twelve game regular season.

First round playoff games are blowouts? Let's let even more teams in!!!

If Iowa beat Alabama, Iowa state, Texas am, Ohio state. Give em the damn trophy

Dumb. You still get great matchups and possibly historic upsets. Eventually the best teams play each other. And at least the best players will be playing in these expanded matchups. See Oklahoma Florida

frick that. You don’t get to lose a quarter of your regular season games and then call yourself the best team in the country.

1941 Bama was pretty low in the polls.
you're right though.
It's dumb. 4 with the old BCS format would be more than good.
6 is the limit, with top 2 getting a bye. Needless injuries in shite game blowouts in the postseason beyond a 6 game set is ridiculous

1) the odds of that happening are astronomical.
2) it’s another ranked game for an Alabama fan or number 1 team to watch which is rare these days
3) how exciting would it be to see an upset of 1 or 2 by 15 or 16 in a meaningful game. 4 team playoff has erased that because the best teams get 1 mulligan ever year. And they never lose twice.
You can either adapt like an Amazon, Tesla, etc. or you can beat your chest as a COllege Football purist and watch the sport fade.

Just one more reason I enjoy college football over pro... they may not be the best team, they just won the tournament.
I’m not taking anything at all away from a super bowl champion, but when an 8-8 Seattle team HOSTED a playoff game a few years ago? Especially when teams with better records against equal competition were left out?? To me, that diminishes the regular season to the point of mediocrity being the goal. It doesn’t matter what happens in the regular season, just get to the playoffs.

Maybe so, but that is beside the point. CFB has always had the worst postseason in sports history, and its time to fix that by creating more meaningful postseason games. Do or die is the way it should be done.

Where does this narrative come from? Going from 2 to 4 has made there be less parity. FCS and DIII have less parity than FBS.

This guy gets it. It’s about the entertainment with meaningful games. I would of loved to see a Texas am vs Norte dame matchup in round two. Or a Georgia vs Clemson on round 2
Would of been epic

The decline of football interest at echelon from pee wee to the NFL has little to do with competitiveness in the CFPs.
And, WTF is a CFP "purist?" Its been around FBS for less than a decade.

Also viewership has been trending down.

More matchups with ranked teams. Unless you like watching Clemson play nc state type teams 95% of the time.
