fix that by creating more meaningful postseason games.

Cool. Where ya gonna get the deserving teams?

LSU beat Georgia like a rented mule in the 19 SECCG and ran through the two playoff games like a hot knife through cold butter. 2020 Alabama’s best competition was Florida, and Ole Miss. Either of them could have beaten Alabama, but neither had a true opportunity to take the lead or hold it. Once in the playoffs, ND and tOSU were simply outclassed.

I don’t see how expansion improves the post season unless you just don’t want your players opting out.

More matchups with ranked teams. Unless you like watching Clemson play nc state type teams 95% of the time

Clemson vs NC St is the type game you’d get, especially in round 1. I’ve already seen that during the regular season.

What???? NC State was not a top 16 team.

Also look at potential second round matchups and tell me you wouldn’t watch...

But Miami was at the time and they got trounced 42-17 by Clemson in the regular season.

They'd be no different than the first round match-ups we get in the CFP of today. Alabama and Notre Dame was an awesome match-up, as was Ohio State-Clemson. Both games were blow outs. There have been 14 semi-final games since the playoffs were created and only three of them weren't blow outs.

It is difficult to slot 4 teams and not have the games be below outs. Look at this year OSU over Clemson, UA over ND and then UA over OSU. Yes you might consider Clemson being upset but that is really unusual. By expanding the number of teams you just add more meaningless game. It will be the Liberty Bowl +

So y’all are saying that all ranked matchups in a expanded playoff would be blowouts. That’s ridiculous.

But yes I think this mini playoff we have will most likely continue to be blowouts because there is usually one clear best team (usually Alabama) that is crazy dominant. I want to see team 2-16 play more often.

Well you’re correct, final polls had Iowa at 16. So that would have been better?? 2020 Alabama would have flogged them.

If Alabama is playing, yes... otherwise, if I have time.

I enjoy college football. I just don’t believe you have to be the National Champion to have a meaningful season. I think Alabama had a couple of players sit out the Citrus bowl after 2019... didn’t mean the players in the game didn’t get meaningful reps and experience to make themselves better for 2020.

Every team doesn’t belong in the playoffs. It’s very likely #8 doesn’t... let alone #16.

Not all...but the vast majority.

Your alternative is to watch crappy bowl games that no one cares about any more because all the players worth watching have opted out

Or we could go back to the old system pre-BCS, do away with about 25-30 bowl games, and thus bring more prestige and luster back to the bowls?

Of course they would get flogged. The value of the playoff is not the 1 vs 16 seed matchup...

Also Alabama plays #24 Miami to start the year. I guess your not excited...

Start with #5 team and go down the list. Not very difficult.

You asked for thoughts in the OP... did you not expect them?

Not really, no. I'll be excited that college football has returned but the match-up doesn't really intrigue me all that much.

Exactly, yet thats all people keep on talking about. Heck, give the top 4 byes as a reward. Play something like this:

5 vs 12
6 vs 11
7 vs 10
8 vs 9

Zero opt outs and Max effort for 8 more teams. That is 4 additional postseason games that matter.

Then why expand?

I’m very much looking forward to this. It is regular season. If at the end of the season both of those teams make the playoffs, it would be good to watch again. But if one of them is at 2 or 3 losses, they probably wouldn’t make an entertaining game against a team like LSU from 2019 or Alabama from 2020.

Heck yes! Not to mention the next round which is where it gets really fun

And again! No opt outs!
