I know the official protocol. I don’t care what their words say. Their actions show otherwise.* I’ve provided three examples of teams that didn’t win a conference getting in over teams that did. Provide one example of a conference winner getting in over a non-conference winner because they won their conference. You can’t because it’s never happened.

*Those actions are also correct, as I’ve been arguing in this thread. A conference championship doesn’t mean anything as far as determining if a team is one of the four best/most deserving. The win over a good team in the CCG might, but not winning the conference title itself.

No they don't.

Cool. Now do how many teams with conference championships have gone over teams without one.

Then why are you in the Rose Bowl (and ranked behind UGA)? Why was Penn State not in over you in 2016? They had two official committee criteria over you: head-to-head AND conference champ. The answer is because the committee doesn’t follow their criteria.

Not because of winning the conference. Because of record, SOS, quality wins, etc. That’s the point I’ve been making.

ND is in because they are undefeated and will bring ratings and ad revenue.
Deserving means something different when dollars are at stake. That’s why
Bama got in last year without being divisional or. conference champs.
Is OSU a better team ? Yeah , I think so but they left the door open with the Purdue
loss.

If ND was 13-0 and played The Citadel
El Cid would beat mighty 4-8 Ball State ...likely by more than the 8 points NDame did.

smart money says Notre Dame wouldn't put up 17 on Alabama as the Bulldogs did, either.

Why is Oklahoma at #4? Why was Ohio State #4 in 2014? Why were Michigan State and Washington in?

Not only because of winning the conference.

Obviously, and it's been demonstrated that you're wrong. More than once.

Here you go...again...

quote:

The CFP committee lists five protocol for deciding between comparable teams:
- Conference championships
- Strength of schedule
- Head-to-head competition
- Outcomes of common opponents
- Other relevant factors

quote:

"We spent considerable time on it, as you might expect. In the end, a one-loss conference champion with their only loss being on a neutral field and a close loss to a ranked team, which they avenged in their conference championship. As we've talked about the last several weeks obviously, a dynamic offense, and their defense has made some big plays in the last couple of weeks."

How weird is it that they always talk about it first, too...

OU: Because UGA had two losses.

OSU: No non-playoff team had a better record. And a 59-point win over a top-20 team.

MSU: They has one loss. The only Power 5 teams that didn’t make it that had fewer than two losses were Iowa and OSU. MSU beat both.

Washington: They had one loss. No Power 5 non-champ had fewer than two losses.

Rob Mullens doesn't agree with you...but what would he know about the committee's decision.

quote:

OSU: No non-playoff team had a better record. And a 59-point win over a top-20 team.

And a conference championship. They specifically pointed that out. The Big 12 even created a championship game because of the decision.

quote:

MSU: They has one loss. The only Power 5 teams that didn’t make it that had fewer than two losses were Iowa and OSU. MSU beat both.

And a conference championship. Again, they mentioned that specifically.

quote:

Washington: They had one loss. No Power 5 non-champ had fewer than two losses.

And a conferences championship...you see anything recurring here?

If other conferences take the risk of getting knocked out over a loss in a conference championship, it’s high time college football forces Notre Dame’s hand to join a conference in football.

It’s time for teams to stop scheduling bama?

Oh...I forgot.....it wouldn’t matter.

Bama gets the automatic bid.

It doesn’t matter if bama plays in a conference championship game or if they don’t.

Hell, they could lose the conference championship game and they would still “get in”.

Common knowledge if they lost to Georgia, Bama and Georgia would have been in the final four.

I’ll just repeat this in threads like this: We beat Pitt, just like Clemson did last night. We beat Northwestern, just like OSU did last night. So we have two conference championship wins. Next time we’ll schedule the Citadel for yesterday so we can finish 13-0 and you can stop crying

Auburn beat Washington who won their conference championship game . Should they be in the playoffs? ND beat scrubs that won weak division.

NW was killed by Duke and lost to Akron . Your bragging about beating them , just think about how bad that looks .

PSU and UCF destroyed Pitt while ND barely beat Pitt. Should UCF be ranked ahead of ND ?

Playing against any ACC opponent not named Clemson, or playing Pitt in any form of football game, especially a "championship" game, should be no source of pride for anyone ever. You need to make a better point.

Clemson is going to roll the Irish bigly, and everyone will regret not putting UGA or OSU in over ND.

Pitt's last championship is contemporary with UGA's last championship. They're not a huge power these days but they're not pushovers either.

If you really look at it, ND plays a pretty tough schedule every year. I'd say more difficult than your average power 5 schedule. Also, not having a conf champ game is a double edged sword, it can help just as much as it can hurt.
