Firstly, Saban never had an issue with players getting paid under the guise of NIL (Name, Image, Likeness), but your feeble mind can't grasp the difference between that and his contempt for how it was rolled out. He was disgusted by the way it turned into a free-for-all, where the highest bidder could buy talent, essentially turning college football into a minor league for the NFL with no regard for the athletes' development or the integrity of the sport.
And about the transfer portal, you're too dense to understand Saban's real grievance. He didn't oppose players moving; he despised how it became a shortcut for those too impatient or untalented to develop under his rigorous training. The portal, in its current chaotic state, has transformed into a revolving door where players hop from team to team, not for growth but for immediate gratification or a slightly better deal. This undermines the very essence of what college sports should be about—building character, resilience, and skill over time.

There are exceptions to this line of thinking. Some players leave because bama was so deep in talent that despite being very good players they weren’t getting playing time and the clock was ticking.

One of the funniest but real quotes from the ole ball coach (Spurrier) was in the 90s at Florida. He was asked about recruiting. His response was “we have recruited well except against Alabama! I do not think we have got a blue chip recruit that we have went after when they wanted them. Come to find out later is that their scholarships are worth more than ours”. As a bonus quote from his that was funny and accurate….question from a reporter: what do you think of Saban being hired as UAt coach? “Well I think it’s funny that a coach with no ethics or morals was hired with a fan base to damn dumb to care”.
