If anyone is thinking of going there get your tickets ahead of time and be prepared for a cramped little car for the ride up. Once you get up top you have to lean over. Cramped headspace. If it is windy you feel the arch sway.

If he keeps playing the way he's been playing, he'll be sporting these:

Did it last year. If you have a TRACE of claustrophobia, don’t do it. Went to a Cardinals game too. Sure, some of the neighborhoods have seen much better days…but I have kinfolk in Detroit. St Louis is OK in comparison. Highly recommend the Budweiser brewery tour as well!

No one who lives in St. Louis has ever been to the top. We just keep it around to scare tourists.

Has East Saint Louis had a growth spurt? Used to be a whole lot of NOTHING (like state of Illinois, sans the ChicagoLand MSA).

Not so's you could tell. If anything it has declined.

Yes, the growth spurt was a casino. Now it is a whole lot of nothing but with a casino.
BTW, that is an old picture, and it is looking East, where the ghetto gives way to cornfields.
And it is not a parabola, it is a weighted catenary arch.

So Illinois gets all the gambling money for Missouri
Same thing happened about a Century ago, but it was booze.
At least Budweiser was a US beer, even if it was crappy, I think the Belgians own it now
Not sure who owns RalCo now but the old CheckerDome was a good place for a ball game. While known for their feeds, they also owned pricey ski resorts in Colorado.

Hmmm…I’m looking at the shadow cast by the arch and I would guess the pic was taken at 10:12 AM CDT six days either side of the Summer solstice in 2006 (considering also the Earth’s precise tilt that year). Truman, can u confirm?
