6 years as a HC
Omaha 2 of the last 3
Won the East- 3
SEC Regular Seaoson Champs- 2
SEC Tournament Champs- 1
National Coach of the year
SEC Coach of the year
283-110 (.720%)
NCAA Tournament Record- 17-9
Only 45 years old
I know some of you will say, well he doesn’t have a national title like Bianco, Johnson and Corbin. They all were considered great coaches in the SEC before they won their first title at Vandy, Ole Miss, and LSU. Dave Ban Horn is also considered a great coach, but no national title yet.
While many won’t give Vitello his due respect as a coach, I think he wins a national title quicker than it took Corbin, Bianco, Johnson or Van Horn did as coaches.
Years as HC before winning 1st natty and current age:
Corbin- 12- (62years old)
Bianco- 25- (57 years old)
Johnson- 10- (47 years old)
Van Horn- ?- (63 years old)
Sloss- ? (53 years old)
Vitello- 45 years old.
Not only will Vitello win a natty before he hits his 10 year mark, he is the youngest of them all currently. Also how many coaches took over a program as down as Tennessee was and turned it around in 2/3 years?

What’s his record vs van horn??
In all seriousness, he’s a great coach. Don’t see him staying at Tennessee..

Vitello 1st year 2018:
Vols prior to Vitello:
2017- 7-19 in SEC play (7th in East)
2016 9-17 SEC play (6th in East)
Haven’t won the East since 1997, and haven’t finished higher than 4th in the East since 2005(2nd in East).
Arkansas prior to DVH:
DVH took over a team in 2003 that was in the super regionals the year prior.
LSU prior to Johnson
Little JJ took over a LSU team with a final ranking #15 in country. LSU also finished #2 in the country in 2017. So due to Covid, he had a loaded team on top of Skenes.
Ole Piss prior to Bianco:
Ole Miss won 29 SEC games prior 2 years to
Bianco taking over and was in a Regional. So he took over a team that wasn’t lacking in talent.
Safe to say the Tennessee job was the toughest job at the time and Vitello didn’t have the pleasure to take over teams that had NCAA tournament talent already on it. Some coaches are Born on 3rd base(JJ) while others have to earn it (Vitello).

Why not? Why in the world would he leave Tennessee when they are literally about to name the field after him? They are building the baseball and renovating it exactly the way he wants it. He is having a direct hand in it and has full control over the baseball program.
Tennessee can also match anyone that comes to try to steal him. When Tennessee is done with its upgrades, he won’t have no reason to leave. If he’s able to recruit with the prior facilities, what you think he’s going to do when everything is finished and we have an elite facility?
Not to mention that Tennessee has one of the top NIL programs in the country. Tennessee gave him his first shot, and for that he won’t leave. He’s loyal and his dad loves Tennessee also. If he was going to leave, he would have left when LSU called him when PM retired.

How many National Championships does Tony have? I think it’s zero so I’m going to say no.

He’s also not as old or even been coaching as long as any of the other coaches named. You know how long it took Skip Bertman to win his 1st national title at LSU? 8 years! Iteo and Skip had the same amount of CWS appearances in their first 5 years as HC also. While you keep brining up titles, you don’t mention he’s one of the youngest coach in the SEC. Bertman was like 53 or 54 when he won his 1st title at LSU. Vitello still has time!

Wrong. He's won Dick of the Year twice.

Vitello is a great coach, but it’s his recruiting that’s most impressive. If you look at his stops prior to Tennessee, those teams were loaded with talent when he was part of them as an assistant and recruiting coordinator.
What he’s done at Tennessee is impressive, but I wouldn’t crown him the “best coach” in the SEC. He still has a lot to accomplish.

You have two threads about your coach on this board. We get it. You like the guy that chokes every year.

JJ led Arizona to the CWS finals his first year. V will never be able to match that.

Serraustitute, you said you weren't posting while BK had you on double shifts. Please honor that.
