State is returning a better team.

UT doesn’t have built-in recruiting advantages now that UGA is rising.

State has nice facilities.

Both have to play Bama each year.

Neyland stadium is larger.

Knoxville is more metropolitan than Starkville...but so is Hattiesburg.

UT has more tradition, but times have changed.

Vols have the advantage if now cowbells.

Tough call...

UT would actually have to play Bama twice in a year to win an SEC title. Who wants to have to beat them twice?

Ms state celebrates 10 win seasons.

Tenner feels entitled to 10 win seasons.

Ms state was last ranked #1 in the polls 3 years ago, Tenner? Two decades ago.

Tennessee is a top 5 SEC job. State is a bottom 5 SEC job.

Try harder.

tMSU is on the rise. With OM about to go into a 10 year hibernation, the banking industry will shift towards Starkville building condos and revitalization of the city and stadium.

Based on?

The actual data and facts would suggest they are closer to peers currently, with ms state being the superior at the current date.

UT has the history on their side. But in my opinion, a good job is only as good as it's job security. I'll take top 15 money and know I have a job tomorrow over somewhere with "history" and get fired mid-season. Mullen has Mississippi State as competitive as we've seen.

I know the topic is ceiling, but he hasn't reached it. People must forget what a dumpster fire Croom left. That takes time to change.

I'd prefer UT just for the sake of being able to live in the Smokies/Cherokee. Plus, expectations at UT are a little lower than in Starkville at this point.

This may have been true 20+ years ago...

Not so much today...I personally don't consider UT a top 5 SEC program anymore

There will only be troll responses but clearly Tennessee is a superior job and not even close. Recruiting territory, storied history, facilities, fan base and stadium.

Croom hasn't been there in like a decade, recruits today probably do not even remember him being there.

Time isn't on your side in this argument.

no it is not.Look at the last 3 hire's made by ut,uf and who lsu hired.Coaches,i think are starting to realize why deal with crazy arse fan's that throw a hissy fit if they don't win it all every year, when they can become multi-millionaire's with less stress at ,msu, ole miss, usce type jobs.5.5 million goes a long way in North Miss.

State has better facilities, better job security, and Mullen can make the same in Starkville as he can in Knoxville, unless UT thinks he's a $8 million coach.

In the CFP era, which is the era we exist, Mississippi State is a top 15 team, and has a good chance to enter the top 10 of the all-time CFP rankings by season's end. Using the 25-24 ... 1 method, here is an aggregate of all of the CFP polls to date.

Sly Croom hasn't been there since 2008....

It takes that long to clean up that "dumpster fire?"
