But I'm not wrong, and even though Hart was a cheap prick, he did what we needed him to do. Now we got the cash, and as a Knoxville resident, you know it's true even if you won't admit it on here

If Tenn has all these built in advantages, why haven’t the last 3 coaches done anything worth a shite?

Mississippi produces more talent than Tennessee any given year. Half of Tennessee’s talent comes out of Memphis which is State/Ole Miss territory.

Lol most of the talent is in the Nashville metro. Any blue chips out of Memphis pick VOLS over Mississippi anyways

It's not really a tough call if you want to win championships. No disrespect intended to State, but the ceiling at UT is much higher than it is at State.

There are three programs in the East with a championship level ceiling: UF, UT, and UGA. In the West you have definitely three in UA, AU, and LSU, and likely a fourth in A&M. However. All 6 and likely 7 of these schools and fanbases have extremely high expectations, and the pressure to win championships is huge.

If Mullen wants to win championships, UT is a better gig. If he doesn't want the pressure that comes with being at that type of program, State is the better job. And who knows, it seems like Mullen is happy at State and loves Starkville. That's an intangible that's important to him that no other school may be able to overcome.

Well, State hasn't won an SEC Championship in football since the 40's
so yeah I gotta go with UT here.

if it so much better, why do they keep ending up hiring bum's for coaches.Ut =career killer for coaches

Lane Kiffin was a bigname hire at the time, boy genius who wasn't ready for the NFL his first go-around. He was probably a bigger name than the current Patriots OC, whose name is being floated for NFL jobs again.

Kiffin was supposed to elevate Tennessee into an offensive juggernaut that could balance out Alabama's defensive force, and he might have been able to do that. Instead, real-world Kiffin emerged and blew up that situation. Totally fricked Tennessee on many levels when he left. They hired Dooley as a 'safe' move, knowing he at least would stay there. Butch was supposed to be an up and comer when they hired him, so he was an upgrade over Dooley.
Tennesee needs a real coach now, not a safe guy or a prospect. If they get the right guy, they quickly jump back ahead of Miss St (and others), back into the mix for the SEC East.

I honestly don’t understand this reasoning. Do you think brand is that important to 18 year olds trying to decide where to play football? Even if it is, don’t you think the orange T has faded over the past 20 years or so? Tenn is an absolute dumpster fire right now, and State is poised to emerge as the clear front runner in Miss with OM facing sanctions. State is looking at a promising decade or so if things continue on this trajectory; Tenn is still leaning on accomplishments that date back to Peyton Manning. This debate is just absurd to me. And the fact that it’s even a question just shows how a lot of CFB is still stuck in the past. Things have changed.

Yes Tenn is a much better job.

Miss st sucks. Never will and never have won shite in any sport. It's a shite hole town in a shite hole state. Ugliest uniforms and ugliest stadium in the SEC. It really is that bad from the outside looking in

Condos were going up everywhere in Starkville years ago.

I mean, I'd argue puke orange is uglier but whatever. And DWS is absolutely not the ugliest since expansion.

So Miss State is going to capitalize and become prominent because OM is about to get hammered with sanctions? That proves the point that State isn't in Tennessee's level.

Premier programs will win. Tennessee, with the right coach, can go toe to toe with any program in the nation and you just admitted State needs its primary instate rival to be debilitated with sanctions to achieve relevance.

That is the difference between UT and State.

Sorry. State is enjoying historically high success under Mullen, but it's just not primed to rival a program like UT longterm.

As opposed to being miss st and never winning jack shite? I don't get your argument. Tennessee is a much better job than miss st. It's not even a debate.

UT has the breadth of history on its side.

Miss State has current history on its side.

Mullens is responsible for that history, so I would say UT would have a much higher ceiling for him.

I think some posters from Miss State brought up valid points about why Mullen would stay, but in essence, it boiled down to Mullen meaning more to Miss State than he would to TN. I am not so sure, I think TN is desperate to turn the situation around at this point.

Yep. Mullen and his credentials are a great fit at UT. I think he's the guy UT wants and there's every reason for UT to do everything they can to empower him to succeed there. They'll ante up for top flight assistant, shadow and support staff. UT is a very good opportunity for Mullen.

What a joke. Your team full of “5 star talent” is going to have its hands full with Vandy. But by all means have fun being stuck in the 90’s.
