10 years? Mullen has completely turned MSU around, I wouldn't want to be the coach that follows him.

The thing is, he can win 8 games a year in Starkville in perpetuity and they'll build a statue of him. If he isn't winning the division and hit double digit wins by year 4 in Knoxville, he needs to get his resume together.

That's just the way it is. And people can say that Tennessee has been a dumpster fire for a decade and that expectations are too high, and maybe they have a point.

But Tennessee ain't lowering the expectations anytime soon. And Mullen has to understand that. At Tennessee, he'd have the resources and the fan support to compete for national championships, but he has to be up to the challenge.

Tennessee would be a risky move for him, but the rewards are exponentially better. Does he want to take a shot at becoming a legend or his he satisfied with being a hero in Starkville?

Yep. Competing with UT Chattanooga, Maryville and Sewanee because that's the talent level in East Tennessee.

High school football outside Memphis and the southern burbs of Nashville is AWFUL.

By region I mean the multi-state region, not Knoxville region. Kentucky, NC, SC, North Georgia, Virginia.

Anyway, most recruits are going to want to play before a crowd of 102k vs 61k.

Another factor people overlook, he's 45 and has been a HC in the SEC west for 9 years. He could stay at state comfortably until his kids finish high school and go wherever he wants (college or NFL) after they leave home, by the time he turns 55. Not to mention he has a strong team coming back next year and is set to sign a good recruiting class in December, so not exactly like he's playing out the string by staying in Starkville a few more years.

True.

However, UT (despite a bad season) is not a major rebuild project. They have a good roster and recruiting class.

The state of TN is now producing a lot of highly rated HS FB talent. TN can also pull from regional talent pools. Mullen should be able to field teams with better talent and depth at UT.

If Mullen is the real deal, he should be able to meet reasonable expectations at UT. It's really a matter of whether Mullen feels it's better to make the move to UT or not. But, there may also be serious mutual interest with ATM.

He'll make great money whether he stays or goes.

And we still have the largest recruiting budget in the conference by a significant margin, because we have to.

If Lyle could bring in top 10 classes, imagine what an elite coach could do.

UT's program is in way better shape now than it was then.

He's already a legend. According to what I have read on the rant. Mullen has been offered every vacant coaching job in the country

State has better facilities, better job security, and Mullen can make the same in Starkville as he can in Knoxville, unless UT thinks he's a $8 million coach.

This thread is laughable in itself, but the out right lies in the post above really have me giggling this morning.

quote:

State has better facilities

That's a bold face lie. The Anderson Training Complex/In door practice field crushes the Leo Seal Jr. football complex and any and all other football facilities that State has.

You sound unknowledgeable saying otherwise. State has nice facilities. They just aren't and never have been better than Tennessee's.

Let's clear up a few things:

-Location: Knoxville crushes podunk, rural Missisippi in every metric to anyone with an IQ over 46.

-Recruiting: You don't have, never had and never will have an advantage to anything recruiting related over Tennessee. Butch I can't coach for shite Jones pulled in top 5 classes despite being the worst game day coach in America. UT recruits itself significantly better than State ever will.

Also, this has already been covered, but the state of Tennessee is and has been out producing the state of Mississippi in shear number of blue chip players going back the last 5 years. There's roughly 20 blue chip players in the 2019 class in Tennessee alone. That's good for more talent than every state not named Texas, Florida or Georgia in the SEC. So again, you sound uneducated. Tennessee is going through the largest uptick in instate talent in the history of the state.

Tennessee has 19 blue chip recruits coming out of the state in 2019. Mississippi has 11. Alabama has 11 and Lousiana has 13. But keep spitting out that bad info.

We passed South Carolina and Mississippi in total number of blue chips coming out of the area years ago.

Tennessee has advantages to significant advantages in every category that matters:

-Location/City
-Recruiting
-Football facilities
-Budget/Revenue
-Fanbase
-Tradition
-Social scene for players and students wanting to come to the University.

There isn't a single category listed above that State holds an advantage over Tennessee in. Zero.

The only advantage that Mississipli State has over Tennessee and will ever have over Tennessee is the guy whose last name ends with Mullen and happens to be a non constant in their program.

What you fail to realize is that State having a better HC at the moment doesn't equate to State having a better, more attractive program with the right pieces in place.

Based on? The actual data and facts would suggest they are closer to peers currently, with ms state being the superior at the current date.

The biggest difference. Money.
Tennessee has way more of it than State. Where State is now isn't maintainable for them in the long run. Add the fact that THIS is the best years State is capable of having. They will never win a national championship in football.

Potentially, Tennessee has all it needs to become successful again.

Long term. Tennessee is the better job.

For the next year or two. State is the better job. They will be a good team next year that could potentially win the west if things fall their way.

No silly, it is evidence of the great talent they have assembled in Knoxville, no one can compete with TN talent.

Tenn fan: We dont want your coach.
Miss St fan: Yeah you do. Our coach is awesome and your program hasnt done crap in decades.

To be honest despite how Tenn is doing this year they still rank higher in 2018 recruiting. Tenn is ranked at 15, one spot ahead of Miss St even though State has 26 commits to 17 for the Vols. Once the Vols fill their class they will be way ahead of State.

Prove it.

What advantages does State have over Tennessee outside of Dan Mullen?

The truth hurts.
