New Orleans is the crown jewel of the American South. Don't ever forget.

The town is ok. I don't mind it because there's some great golf courses near by. The town itself is Nothing special with your standard/traditional southern college feel and night life. Gainesville and Starkville are about as bad as there is in the sec. the good people in Starkville make up for it tho.

I think Auburn is bad, but Gainesville was way worse to me. To comment on the OP, I've been a fan of Alabama my whole life, and Tuscaloosa was very disappointing.

The French Quarter is about the only thing worth visiting in New Orleans. Make sure you are wearing Kevlar if you want to venture further out.

Tuscaloosa's most vibrant and largest economic activities are related to the "industries of poverty". In other words, Pawn shops, Payday Loan offices, Cash for Title, Check Cashing, Bad Credit Used Automobiles lots, Tatoo Parlors, ad nauseam. Would never want to visit Tuscaloosa again much less live there. I sincerely feel sorry for those stuck there. Heaven help them.....

As someone who's drummed in countless parades, half the stages on Frenchmen St, and a couple times at Jazz Fest, I couldn't agree more. If the job market wasn't so weak, I'd move back tomorrow.

A town of 45,000 with a world-class (no, really) art museum and fine dining downtown, for example.

Are you referring Crystal Bridges? I ask because I've been there, and 100 other art museums around the world (my wife is an art lover so we vacation around going to museums), and I'd say CB might be in the top 60 around the country. Not a dig at the town or the museum just a statement of what "world-class" is.

Tuscaloosa is pretty. I like the north river area and the lake. The hills are nice too. Louisiana is so flat.

Clarke county is the poorest county in Georgia. Yes, Athens would be a shithole if not for the college. Just like Fayetteville, Arkansas would just be farmland, Gainesville would be a swamp, Baton Rouge would be a desolate wasteland of crime, etc., etc.

Starkville is the worst, by far. It's completely ridiculous. Cows everywhere. I lived for several years in Columbus, Mississippi, which is nearby. That whole area is trashy. In case anyone forgot... we're talking about rural Mississippi here! Mississippi!!!

Gainesville isn't great either, but it's no Starkville. It's in the same tier as Baton Rouge or Tuscaloosa. College Station is maybe a little worse. Athens tops them all.

No it's not. It's not even close. You pulled that out of your arse.

Clay and Calhoun counties have a much higher rate of poverty and a ton of states have a much lower average household income.
