Outside of the SEC "city" campuses, Meh ...Bama, auburn, Gainesville, oxford, etc, are all about the same.

Baton rouge, Knoxville, Nashville aren't college towns.

I had a great time in Starkville. It’s the definition of a college town, the rest of the city wouldn’t exist without it. Towns like Starkville, Oxford, Auburn, and even Tuscaloosa that live and breathe for university athletics are what make the SEC great.

Not shocked the Rant is choosing population as a measure of fun. The average poster here has an IQ lower than the public average which is downright scary.

Fayetteville is always massively underrated because so many people haven't been there. It's awesome.

Fayetteville is just generally a nice town.

There are college towns with prettier nature, or better food, or more bars, but Fayetteville ranks high in all three categories, in my opinion, and that's a good combo few other college towns can match. Nature, outdoors activities, laid back atmosphere, aesthetics, people, bars and restaurants.

No ghetto, but too many homeless people, and too liberal, honestly. But still a great town.

There's an active start-up scene and lots of positive vibes in general.

Name something about it unrelated to the university.

The whole point of being a college town is that there isn't much to it other than the college. Name something notable besides the college about Auburn, Starkville, College Station, Oxford, Gainesville, Athens, Columbia, MO, etc....

I can name a lot about Baton Rouge besides the university, but none of it is positive.

Yes and it’s full of the worst fans in the SEC. They are embarrassing.

And let's be honest, if it was not for the campus and cool vibe of downtown, Athens would be a shithole.

If you're in town for a college football game, what more are you looking for?

We go to at least one away Georgia SEC game nearly every year. Also go to many Georgia away OOC games. The ND game was almost a home game with all the Dawgs there. Pissed off the Domers.
Will be in Baton rouge next year.

No other Alabama county comes close.... not sure what would be next.

Limestone County in the northwest (Decatur area). Getting lots of spillover from the Madison County growth of aerospace jobs. Most of them are $60K and up.

Starkvegas much better college town than Red Stick. BR is a stinky , polluted mess of a city. At least Starkvegas is a true college area. Most of the SEC campuses are metropolitan now and have become slick urban areas. In this case, a smaller population is a win. Haphazard growth has hurt a number of the SEC cities.
Starkvegas has grown over the years but it has been a slow moderate growth that has allowed the town to keep its charm.

Now going forward it will continue to grow and unfortunately end up like some of its brethren around the conference but for now it is one of the best college towns in America.

I hate that the music scene has really ebbed. Talking to Jed Clampit today at Whole Hog BBQ....and he opined that the music scene in Fayetteville really took a turn for the worse in 2000. I grew up here and remember the 80's to Millennium turn quite fondly for live music and the areas committment to it. Your point is very correct...it has really gone downhill. We still get occasional flashes of good...but in the old days...that good was 5 days a week....instead of 5 times a month.

Nearly all college towns would be shite holes without the colleges. They are that city’s whole economy. (Exception: Vandy)

Might as well list College MSA's then instead of towns/cities because the population of Lexington blows the three I listed out of the water
