Thanks. I also think I have a unique perspective since I have been to all the towns during non-football weekends.

Fayetteville is always massively underrated because so many people haven't been there. It's awesome.

All SEC towns have coeds, nightlife and football. If you can’t find a good time in all of them, it says more about you than the town.

Yep. Def the #2 SEC town for me. My top 5 nationally, and I have been to a ton, are:

1. UVA

2. UGA

3. Harvard (love the area. was very cool)

4. Arky

5. Annapolis

But I've only been to Athens, Auburn, Tuscaloosa, Knoxville, Nashville and Columbia (MO).

Auburn is by far the smallest of all the cities you have listed. It's okay to admit you prefer bigger towns.

The people who try to make this argument haven't been to Tuscaloosa in 15-20 years. Or will just hate it despite any improvements that are continually being made.

I honestly think it is the corridors into the City that people make this judgment on. They are poor. But that is being addressed by investors like Stan Pate as well as AlDOT.

Lulz, what's wrong with Auburn? Gainesville is meh. Columbia, SC is underrated. And let's be honest, if it was not for the campus and cool vibe of downtown, Athens would be a shithole. Felt like Huntington, WV to me.

I wouldn't rank Auburn at the top, but there isn't anything wrong with it. It's just small and in east Alabama.

Athens is really, really dumpy outside of downtown, but it's a great college town - arguably the best. Tuscaloosa used to suck but it's admittedly a lot better now.

Been to all and agree they're all great.

Annapolis is awesome.

Fort Collins is pretty neat.

None of those places other than Nashville are 'big'. They're all college towns, and Auburn is just pretty much nothing.

I've been to 2 games in Little Rock and they both were awful. Never put much thought into making a trip to Fayetteville after that. I guess I'll have to reconsider

Do it. Fayetteville during November is gorgeous as long as you dont get a bitter cold weekend.

Downtown, campus and Dickson Street are very cool. The scenery is gorgeous too (the actual scenary, not women, though they are fine too).

The MSAs of Columbia and Knoxville are both like 700-800k. So nothing like Auburn. Auburn generally compares favorably to similarly sized college towns, IMO.

I'd separate colleges into 3 categories:

-True city. Anything with MSA of say 300k or more. Nashville, Knoxville, Baton Rouge etc.

-Notable city. MSA/area probably 150-300, but more importantly, the city has considerable significance outside of the school. Athens, probably Tuscaloosa

-College town. The town is largely about the college. Oxford, Starkville, Auburn (but Auburn is probably transitioning to the next category up).

I think it's a little trickier than that. Anyone who has been to Columbia MO would call it a college town. Although it has grown a lot in the last 10-15 years, it 100% revolves around the college.

I think it is nice town. Dont blame the town, no town could overcome the bullshite that comes with 100,000 plus Bama fans in it at once.
