Nashville, Lexington, Columbia, Knoxville and Baton Rouge are all in cities. Not really the same experience as Oxford or Athens for example.

Theres plenty to do here, but as far as the campus area other than the strip by Two Keys, or down by Lynaghs, you either go downtown to those bars (which are still kinda spread out up and down Main/Vine) the bar area by Cheapside and the Courthouse, or all the stuff in the outlying suburbs.

I havent been to Athens or Ttown but its my understanding the bar areas are like right there by campus or the stadium. Thats gotta be pretty sweet.

You come here, come in October during Keeneland fall meet. Make sure you play us at night that weekend. Take an extra day, go checkout some of the bourbon distilleries, weve got all manner of good breweries in Lex, a lot of great music venues, some damn fine local restaurants too.

Bourbon, women in short dresses, betting on horses, football, more bourbon, beer music and food. A lot to love about Lex.

Been a while since I had traveled through Alabama, but in early March I drove through Tuscaloosa again.. Glad I took the truck. Would’ve white knuckled it through there on the Harley with the condition of the roads. Same thing with Louisiana

College Station is blah. Gainesville or Auburn should be at bottom. Not sure about CoMo. I think Oxford has gotten worse. Stark Vegas has improved.

Northport > Tuscaloosa by a pretty wide margin IMO

If you're on the lake or river? Sure. Otherwise Northport is a damn joke.

I'll say this about Columbia, you get the full college campus experience including beautiful fall foliage, the columns which shield Jesse Hall and the famous Francis Quad. A truly first class campus.

I have to admit I was a bit disappointed in College Station when I visited there. Just kind of blah. Kyle Field is fine and the people are nice.

I've been to every SEC except for Columbia, MO. College Station should be last. Town has zero character and campus is a hodge podge of buildings that don't conform in style.

Also, I'm a Baton Rouge resident and have no idea what the pic in Baton Rouge is. Never seen it before.

Well, Tuscaloosa does have dumbass for a mayor.

Walt Maddox has done a ton for the City of Tuscaloosa the last 15 years. If you can’t see the progress he’s made, then that’s on you.

Sessions is actually an Auburn guy. He just has a law degree from Alabama.

Isn’t that most of the SEC cities other than Nashville?

They’re college towns. You go there for school then leave when you start your career.

Meh. There's really not much going on in Tuscaloosa outside of campus and the Strip.

Downtown has changed a lot. Lots of places there

Honestly it is a nice campus. Not as pretty as LSU's, but nice. Our fraternity took a road trip there in the 80s.

A group of us went in '05, '07 and '11. Other than having to (try) and ignore insulting Katrina jokes and adult males on all fours in cages with hot dogs in their mouths yelling about corndogs, it was ok....

Yep.

I love Auburn, AL but objective me realizes it's a very small college town with absolutely nothing to it besides a pretty campus.

Yep. Campus and downtown Tuscaloosa are nice.

Rest of the city is pretty meh, save for a few pockets here and there. And I grew up there. No way I'd move back there now.

A few thoughts:
No, Tuscaloosa's not that bad and game day
experience for visitors is among tops in the
country---Nashville is not a college town, it's a
city with an SEC college buried somewhere
inside---as far as flavor off campus for a game,
Fayetteville ranks every bit equal with Athens
and with its own different vibe.
