Anything can happen & regardless what you think about him, Jimbo was a great hire for A&M.
Reality tells us they are middle of the road in every aspect outside of facilities and within 3 years that advantage will be washed out based on numerous programs pending upgrades.
They'll never be better than #3 recruiting option in there own region, the "we are rich" is on the most laughable tales in CFB and they are based n College Station with a 100 years plus of mediocrity.
They'll spike on occasion with a very solid team, but that's a it's ever going to be.
Perfect example is Texas. Second fiddle in the B12/region and they hold a much better hand than A&M will ever hope to posses. The SEC just needs to pray the Ags don't go the "Fed Ex" route again, the last time they threw crazy money at a big named coach it took down a conference.

Somehow 170+ Texas high school kids are earning the NFL check and I'm guessing they aren't all from Houston
That’s my point exactly......170 people from a state that’s nearly 5 times bigger than Georgia and there’s 130 on nfl rosters from Georgia. Take the same geographical area and you’d have all of Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana and South Carolina. There are 580 players in the nfl from those SEC states. I’d bet a vast majority of those 170 from Texas come Dallas/ Fort Worth, Houston-and San Antonio. West of San Antonio just ain’t football country. The only notoriety for the most part is there ain’t shite else to do in Midland and Lubbock than go to high school football games. It ain’t good football it’s all there is. Outside of DFW, Houston and San Antonio Texas is a bunch of small towns and vast areas of NOTHING...... they play 6 man high school football at
262 high schools in Texas.....Public schools for the most part, not private school.
The level of play and athlete playing High Scool Football in Texas isn’t comparable to that being played in the south. It ain’t even close. There is a reason they don’t play defense in the big 12 and don’t run the ball.....because they don’t have the athletes in state to do so like we do in the south.

Nope, Texas is neither. TEXAS is TEXAS.
Only to Texans. There is NOTHING UNIQUE about Texas to folks who ain’t from Texas.....it is about as homogenized Midwest as it gets. Much closer to Iowa and Kansas and Indiana in that respect than it is to the south. Hell you can’t even get grits in most of Dallas outside of Waffle House.......and anything west of Dallas is certainly not the south......anymore than New Mexico or Arizona is....

You ever heard of Friday Night Lights, bro? That's Odessa, Texas, son (west of San Antonio).
Odessa, Midland, San Angelo and Abilene schools' district was called the Little Southwest Conference.
You're a dumbass.

What if the giant awakens and he's just a big ol' softy? Soft hands, soft gut, big soft rosy cheeks? Who's gonna be afraid of that?

That is rich coming from a conference killing machine like Texas. You arrogant fricks are something to behold.
I don't let the Aggies know it often, but I see why they say what they do about you.

I think A&M should improve on the field, but I don't know if it'll change the perception until they improve a lot and over a longer period of time.
The town is boring, the school is boring, the logos and colors and mascot are boring. Being tradition-rich is cool for people who are there, but it's weird to outsiders.
I think it'll be hard for A&M to really decide how they want to grow the brand, because I suspect a lot of them are very happy with A&M as it is. Which I get, but it's nonetheless a school with all the trappings of a national fanbase/student base, but which is probably not very appealing outside of Texas.
I also think not having a rival you play regularly matters. I'm not getting into the Texas debate, but I do think it keeps your profile lower when you don't have any high-profile games to sell. If you can get to the top 2-3 in the SECW, you'll have those regular high profile games whether it is a true rivalry or not (LSU-Bama, AU-LSU) but I don't think A&M is there yet.

At the end of the day they're soft. I think Texas as a state, though it produces big/strong/fast kids, the spread 7 on 7 culture of their offenses and defenses has made them soft. There are a few schools who still put a mean product on the field, but over all it just seems that way.
