Yea, I see that now looking back. I have lots of Ole Miss friends and we have had fun in Oxford and Starkville. I was simply trying to point out that Oxford, Starkville, Auburn, Tuscaloosa are much more similar than they are different.
The least fun I have had in a SEC town is Knoxville. The most underrated is Lexington in my opinion.

I made a completely honest comment about Starkville but I guess no one got it with the Ole Miss basketball metaphor.
States campus is not bad at all. It is just unlucky that it is in the same conference as some of the most beautiful campuses in the country. That's not a knock on State. The issue is the town if Starkville that is miles behind every other SEC town except for maybe Tuscaloosa.

A lot of people haven't been to starkville in the past 5 years and don't realize how much has been built up (on campus and off campus).
We had a huge increase in students I think back around 2006 and they built the new dorms at state, and since then there has been constant construction and new things built. New apartments have gone up, more bars and restaurants built. Cotton district has really been built up, along with some new restaurants on hwy 12.
I remember 10 years ago how shitty the town and campus looked. It fit the description that a lot of people make it out to be nowadays, but I'm willing to be they haven't been here in a few years.
The campus' image has been improved drastically since 10 years ago... new buildings everywhere and right now are building the new athletic center and some other huge building on the south end of campus. They redid a lot of the roads because 10 years ago they were awful. The grass and scenery has also had millions put into it to get rid of that "pasture" look it used to have.
I think the Cotton District is one the best student living places in the SEC. It's like a town within a town... houses and apartments with an old New Orleans style. Has it's own bars, restaurants, liquor store etc. just for the college students all within walking distance. Also can walk to campus or the downtown area easily

This is the problem with this whole argument. What amenities do Auburn and Oxford have that Starkville does not? I'll give you the square, but that is about it. "Miles behind" is a complete bullshite statement. Is Starkville the least attractive town? Possibly, but there is just as much to do in Starkville.
