It honestly would depend on numbers. Drink is safe for awhile in CoMo, there is no safety net on the Plains. Honestly, in terms of expectations, Auburn is probably one of the worst jobs.

Mizzou cannot compete, Auburn is the worse 5 year period in Auburn History, Mizzou has had two decent years. They should have loss to Auburn the last two years, they have zero chance of winning a NC. Auburn has always been way up and way down. Mizzou has been down and decent.
That being said, I do not like Drink.

It depends who is coaching Mizzou. Nerdy Drink really connects with corporate donors in StL and KC. Cash wise he can go toe to toe with anyone besides the Texas oil money and brands like LSU. So Drink at Mizzou makes Mizzou better, but Drink at Auburn probably doesn't work as well.
The school that concerns me the most to steal Drink is Penn State.
They're a name brand in the B1Cupcake and he's already established a PA recruiting pipeline with quarterbacks.

Fla and LSU demand championships which these days are much different a little school like Indiana can now compete with what was the big boys.’
NIL money and transfer portal has changed everything.
I do think something should be done about the transfer portal I don’t think it’s right that a school forks out money and to loses that player they invested in.

Auburn is the better program historically and a bigger brand name.
I can't stand the word "brand" for football teams...
But Missouri has potential to upgrade their "brand" by stringing together some really good teams. Probably more so than a lot of other programs out there.

Auburn has been terrible for 12 years with the exception of 2017

He reminds me of Charlie Spoonhour in that regard.
Spoonhour’s folksy demeanor worked well with non Billikens fans in St. Louis because he reminded them of Whitey Herzog. Spoonball put SLU back on the sports map.

Auburn just lost to Kentucky at home so badly it got the coach fired.
The world of college football has completely changed.
Auburn lost to Kentucky in 2009 and won a national title the very next year… in large part because we got an all-timer QB transfer. Whether the portal was in effect back then or not didn’t really make much difference.

Here is how Mizzou and Auburn compare in the new era of football.
No one is interested in you listing the literal 5 worst seasons in Auburn football history. If you expect that to go on for forever, you’re an idiot.
Auburn has a larger fanbase.
Auburn has a larger athletic budget.
Auburn spends more on NIL.
Auburn is in a more fertile recruiting area.
Just as Mizzou can get kids through the portal, so can Auburn… only we have more money and resources to do it. The only thing we’re missing is a competent coaching staff. If and when we finally fix that, I promise we will go back to being your daddy just like we were when we ran all over your best team of the past 50 years back in 2013.

Nothing that any program did before NIL-portal really matters any longer, besides for historical perspective.
The landscape is completely different and it’s 100% all about money and what you do with that money to get the best talent. Just the way it is.

AP Poll Appearances the past 12 seasons:
191- Alabama
189- Ohio State
170- Georgia
163- Oklahoma
162- Notre Dame
158- Clemson
143- Oregon
142- Michigan
138- LSU
127- Penn State
112- Ole Miss
110- Utah
105- Texas A&M
102- Wisconsin
101- USC
100- Oklahoma State
98- Texas
93- Florida
91- Auburn
Yes, we’ve been bad the last 12 seasons but still good enough to be within striking distance of A&M, Texas, and Florida and way ahead of Tennessee, Missouri and everyone else behind them.

A&M hasn't been good either with the exception of 2020. Better than Auburn though.

The facts show otherwise.

Auburn has had much lower lows than A&M. Didn't yall miss several bowl games? I think we missed 1 year. Didn't yall lose to UCF in a bowl game?

mizzou would be the better program if they'd claim that goldarn 1960 national championship

Instead of Drinkwitz to Florida or LSU being a fairly clear upgrade, now a guy like Drink has to consider that he is already being paid $9 million per year, he is recruiting at a high level and crushing the Portal, and has a fanbase in Columbia that is happy with him.
Wut?

I don’t care if we hire howdy doody, we’ll be better than we were the last 5 god forsaken years.

Possible consideration is at Auburn, the B-ball program gets a big share of the $20M. At Mizz, most &$ can go to football program.

Auburn has won national championships, Mizzou won a co-conference back before man walked on the moon
