He has been anointed by the burnt Orange nation as their savior.

The rabid weasel Texas fan base will turn on him in a second

Not overrated. He has the goods.
My expectations?
1) Hand the ball off.
2) Complete a few passes and let receivers show their stuff.
3) Take off running as needed, additional threat that Ewers wasn't.
4) Protect the ball, minimize turnovers.
He has a lot of help from this team, on both sides of the ball. He doesn't have to win the games by himself like some qbs in the conference might.

Does the Texas fanbase really think he is that special?
I think the realistic and sensible are being more reserved in their expectations.
I'm no expert, but I will say that against a bunch of highschool teams Manning put up 900 yds and looked great. Against the 2 teams he played against that were legit, UGA and Florida, he had a whopping 38 yards combined and no TDs. I'd venture that 3/4 of the QBs starting in the SEC could have duplicated those numbers against the same teams.
So, yeah, I think the kid is certainly talented, but he hasn't proved much on the field, yet.

I think everyone wants to see what the kid is made of. He has the genes, Sark is an excellent QB coach, so the stars at least are aligning.
No one will really know until 4-5 games into the season.
Even a loss to OSU doesn’t mean he’s not what he’s hyped to be. We’ll begin to see by game 4 is he’s the second coming.

I will say this. The young man had to be the fastest Manning out there. I’ve heard that Cooper was the best athlete between Archie’s boys.
Anything is up for grabs right now but Manning has very little offensive line experience in front of him and that doesn’t bode well for him. And I’d say that for any QB with such an inexperienced line.

We don’t have a new QB starting. Reading comprehension

A lot of people who know more than you and me seem to think he will be pretty good. He is a new QB playing behind 4 new starters on the o-line. He plays Ohio State, UGA, UF and Oklahoma all away from home. There will be some problems.
IF, and it is a big IF, he leads Texas into the Red River Shootout undeafeated against an undefeated Sooner team, the media will hit a level of obnoxiousness we can't even imagine.

Like all good Texas QBs they will put plenty of talent around him to allow him to shine. Then he’ll wash out of the league within a couple years. Maybe earlier if he tries to be mobile.

Don’t let a few Texas posters and a few alt’s play you into thinking that all Texas posters think we control everything

We don't know if he's overrated... We've not seen him play enough.

I’ll be shocked if he lives up to the enormous hype

He played against Georgia. And looked lost as frick
Posted on 8/5/25 at 9:14 pm to Jster15
he has no chance of living up to all the hype. I don't blame him for that either.

Please show me where Texas fans are hyping Manning for the Heisman. They are not. If anything somewhat surprised by how far national media is taking it (but not too much, we all knew the moment he committed it was going to be a media circus once he was starting)
Tbh, Texas fans are quietly excited bc we know we have a really good QB. That confidence comes from what we know is going on behind the scenes and from the simple fact that normally a qb transition is a huge question mark. Texas is not going to experience a drop off at qb and it’s more likely they are going to be more dangerous at that position than the previous year. The hopes that Texas OL is going to drop off is also something the fanbase knows isn’t real. If you follow Texas closely you know that Texas is essentially only replacing 1 starter on the OL.
I think a poster above nailed it… manning is overhyped bc no one could possibly achieve the level of success the national media is putting on him in his first year. But he isn’t overrated, if anything he is underrated by MANY.
What rest of the SEC needs to realize is… THIS year Texas doesn’t need Manning to be all-world. Their defense is going to destroy people. Also you’re not facing Manning for one season, he will be back at Texas for the 2026 season as well

I kond of feel bad for him..he is expected to be great because of his name...brutal hype
I expect something simple like; over 75 comp rate, 5-1 TD-INT ratio. a QBR over 150 every game except vs Florida he better kerp the Manning tradion of losing to us, and the first 2 time Heisman winner..low expectatioms for that legacy. ..
also he better be a number 1 pick or else!

I don't know about that. He was the most popular jersey sold last year, and it wasn't close. There was a roar from the crowd every time he took the field.
quote:
There is joy in the cavernous reaches of Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium, home of the University of Texas at Austin’s football team. The date is September 28, 2024. Texas is ranked number one in the country for the first time in sixteen years. That’s not the only reason to celebrate. On this day, backup quarterback Arch Manning, filling in for an injured Quinn Ewers, is making his first start against an SEC team.
To understand the happiness and hope Arch inspires, just listen to the roar of the crowd as he takes the field in the middle of the first quarter for his first set of downs against Mississippi State. The sound is not like other roars, those heard after a touchdown or turnover. The screams are delirious, as 101,388 people pack the stands. The burnt orange masses jump and whoop, wagging hook ’em signs like crazy people. Never mind that the twenty-year-old has had only one previous start, or that he hasn’t yet played two full college games. Never mind, too, that the other quarterback—you remember, the one who’s hurt—has already taken the team to the national semifinals and has beaten defending champion Michigan 31–12 in the current season. These things don’t seem to matter. Longhorn Nation is in the grip of what the media is calling Arch Madness.

I don't think there's anything quiet about the excitement Texas fans feel about Arch Manning.
I'm not saying Texas fans are responsible for all the hype, but they're not exactly quelling it.

like every other Manning in the SEC he will put up a lot of stats, have a few nice wins, then choke when it matters.
