This will be the proof on to what degree of being mentally challenged Billy actually has. Starting Mertz would prove that it is a severe degree. Starting Lagway would show a lesser degree but probably still hopeless.

He's dumb enough to start him for 3 qtrs, and bring in Lagway when aTm is up in our own house 38-3 with 10 minutes left in the 4th.

I really don't mind having Mertz start with a short leash.

Outside of Leak and Tebow in ‘06 I think the old adage that “when you play 2 QBs instead of one, it means you have none” rings true

I don't think Napier is going to bench a 10th year starting QB because his backup played well in a cupcake game he missed due to injury. Mertz will start based on his leadership and experience of last season. If Mertz lights it up (hahahaha), he will stay the starter and Lagway will just have his packages. If Mertz stinks it up, and Lagway does well, then probably Lagway will be given more frequent and longer runs until he claims the starting job.

In short there will need to be A/B testing of the two guys in the same game before he goes with a true freshman. I'm not saying that's right or wrong, but that's what a coach like Napier will require.

Shane Matthew's said he doesn't think Lagway is ready yet based on what he saw in practices and the scrimmages but that may be a good sign as he has been wrong on most things with the Gators in recent years.

Leadership? Sorry but constantly throwing safe checkdowns on 3rd downs that have no chance for a first down is not showing leadership imo. It was like Mertz was playing for his completion % instead of getting other receivers a chance to make a play to move the sticks. Never saw another QB so gun shy in those situations. 2nd half of the SC game is about the only time he came out of his shell.

I've got the gators turning things around this week. Perfect opponent to get back on track.

I'll be pissed if SBB throws Lagway to the wolves to try and save his job.

You ain’t lying. We are either going to really suck, or be really good vs Florida. If it’s a shootout, close games, it might be a display of anemic offenses. First to 21 points win.

Isn't that exactly what happened against Miami?

Mertz was in the majority of the game and the offense did nothing. The 10 points were from a interception that started a drive in FG range for 3, and a single long TD run your RB broke off for like 70 yards.

Not a single drive otherwise, and not a single 3rd down converted. Until Lagway came in. Then Florida got it's only offensive drive of the game for a TD and converted a 3rd down.

I'm not a Florida fan and that is the only game I've seen of Florida. And I'm not going to pretend to know better than your staff, but I'm personally surprised he isn't starting Lagway.

Technically, yeah. But I'd note Lagway came in during garbage time down 28 points and Miami was likely underprepared for the QB change.

There actually was one other drive, but it ended rather horrifically. That of course being the 11-play drive where Mertz got injured and threw an interception. But once again, Miami was up 28 points. One of these drives looked a lot better than the other to me, but they both were moving the ball for the first time in the game probably because it was garbage time more than anything else.

The wild card here is the play calling. If it's Billy The Predictable, then it's going to be a long day for UF, no matter who's at QB.
