Wanted a consensus feeling on this

I kinda hope so. That would be the death knell of conference championship games. They have become redundant in this era of the expanded playoff.

No
Committee knows Conferences (regarding Conf Champ games) are looking for excuses to cancel them. If you penalize teams for losing in it then it opens up a big bag of worms. Would future teams opt out?
My view is you can’t penalize this game outcome - they are traditions and one of type games. Need to keep history of them without penalty

Only if a team behind them steals a bid. They would not be jumped by an at-large team.

By any sane logic, an SECC loss should absolutely not knock a team out of the playoff that would have otherwise made the playoff without having to play in the championship game.
But this committee is a fricking clown show. Nothing would really surprise me.

Poor Alabama just can’t catch a break!

The committee will not penalize a team for playing in the conference championship game. Just look at SMU last year. If bama is in before CCG’s they will be in after them regardless of whether they win or lose.

Unfortunately I think the SEC just re-upped for a bunch more title games which sucks so bad

Bama can't make the SEC championship game.
ETA: Yes they can, I misread the standings.

If yes - conference championship weekend will be on its deathbed

If the Committee treats an in-season game as exhibition and unilaterally declares the results null, doesn't that open a bigger can of worms?

Uh, that's a forfeit and is counted as a loss and better be counted as a loss if the sport has any structure or integrity left.

If you’re playing in any game this time of year it’s a damn good idea to win it before you start talking about whether you should be in or not

The rest of the world hates everything about Alabama, so don’t get your hopes up.

They might hate Alabama, but they like money. Killing conference championship weekend would equal a huge monetary loss for everyone.

SMU had one loss on the season before the conference championship game.
Bama lost to a team that likely isn’t making a bowl game and the other at home.
In the end, they will almost assuredly leave a 10-3 Bama out as a 5th SEC team if OU wins tomorrow.
Maybe Bama should not lose to a .500 or worse team if they want a shot at a championship? Isn’t that their argument for OSU in 2011?
Amazing how the rules change when it is about Bama.
