I said when Avery was hired that he wasn't much of a coach. It was silly for Bama fans to think he could coach college basketball with zero college coaching experience and being a pretty poor NBA coach. In regards to the NBA...

Avery inherited the deepest team in the NBA with a guy that was playing better than anyone else in the NBA back in 2005-2006. That was a championship caliber team and the best team in basketball for two straight years. With all that he inherited Avery managed a 2 round playoff loss, blew a 2-0 finals lead and lost 2-4, was bounced in the first round (0-3) with the best team in the league, then lost again in the first round. A good coach would have won back to back titles with the talent he had, and he won zero.

The Mavs fired him as the team got worse with him as coach. Then the Nets fired in the middle of the season after his first year with them.

Anyway, he wasn't terrible in the NBA, but he had GREAT depth and talent in Dallas (the best in the league for 2 of his 4 seasons) and was fired, then quickly fired from the Nets. And zero college coaching experience. I would say he has done exacted what was expected - recruit well, underperform.

Texas only has 8 Q1/2 wins and for some reason they're impressive. Baylor has 7. UCLA has 6. Louisville has 5. St. Mary's has 3.

If LSU were even just 17-11 instead of 16-12 they'd probably be solidly in the discussion (that SFA loss hurts). Same with UGA.

There's a matrix-like scale that balances resume with record. If your resume is good enough, your record can be mediocre. If your resume isn't good, your record has to be good.

Alabama's resume is good enough, definitely. But there has to be a line where a certain record disqualifies you from consideration, and Bama is diving towards that line. Reminds me of UF 2014-15.

It's just weird for me to see people debating us as a tournament team. We're done, finished and the team has given up. We're beyond repair. A&M and then whoever we play first in STL will perform the ceremonial killshot and things will gracefully end.

A&M will gladly accept ending UGA's and Bama's chances of dancing this week.

Just kick us in the nuts for the first 5 minutes and we'll mentally crumble. Or wait until the 2nd 5 minutes. Or the 2nd half. Whatever, just know that when you do, we'll ask for surrender.

Don't be shocked if we decide to sleepwalk until the last 10 min and try to come back. Heart seems to be an issue on our team as well outside of say Tyler Davis.

There is nothing worse in sports than watching a team mentally concede defeat during an athletic event.

It is unforgivable.

I won't be shocked either way because I'll be watching baseball.

Maybe but I think it would be a mistake to turn the heat up just yet. It's viewed as an excuse but the team is young. Young teams are prone to shite the bed on occasion when playing well coached veteran opponents. Despite the bad losses though, Bama has beaten, and flat out dominated, some good teams. I think the worst thing fans could do right now is to start making Avery feel unwelcome. If the team doesn't play with a lot more consistency and poise next season after having a year's experience behind it, I'll change my tune.

You really did nail it, and I was one of the ones that didn't want to hear it at the time. All the above is exactly what is happening in Tuscaloosa.

What? Texas is 5-10 against Q1.

I show Texas at 6-9 against Quadrant 1... I show Bama 5-6. A Quadrant 1 loss shouldn't necessarily hurt a program.

Texas also has zero Quadrant 3/4 losses.... Bama has 1.

And Texas beat Alabama inside the state of Alabama.

For that reason, I think Texas' resume is a hair stronger. Both should be in the Field, IMO.

Would not be shocked if he's back in NBA, even as assistant.

Probably not, because some fans seem to think that every coach deserves an entire geological era to recruit their own players and implement their offense. Once those things are done, they deserve at least 4 more seasons to coach "their" players. After that, if they are still losing, then and only then will they be given one more year, with the formal written warning that the next year will be "put up or shut up*"

*unless, of course, firing the coach could cause us to miss out on a recruit anytime in the next 7-8 classes.
