Are you getting down to Texas A&M roots?

Poor draggies.

They just can't seem to keep a coach around.

Buzz made $4.5 million and Maryland is paying a $10 million buyout. I have no idea if Beard will be considered but the numbers don't look bad if Aggies decide to offer Beard.

Beard would likely stay and wait on some better job openings.

You have an extra zero in that buyout number. Maryland only has to pay a $1M buyout to A&M.

Yes, but isn't that because A&M didn't offer a contract extension? I thought I read somewhere it would have been $2m except for that. If that's true, it kinda sounds to me like A&M was about ready for Buzz to go.

Hard to think any coach would leave a conference that just put 14 teams in the NCAA tourny 100% of his own free will.

Baseball is its own separate situation for roster retention, but this is going to be the first actual coaching search/hire for Trev. We shall see what kind of AD A&M got in Trev based on what he does next.

Isn’t he the one that our little brother Horn defended when he tried to choke out his girlfriend?

'sip fired him. Girlfriend later redacted her story and all charges were dismissed.

quote:

On December 12, 2022, Beard was arrested on a third-degree felony charge of assault against a family member for strangulation. According to the police report, Beard's fiancée Randi Trew told them Beard, "choked me, bit me, bruises all over my leg, throwing me around, and going nuts," consistent with bite marks on her arm and cuts on her face and leg. He was subsequently suspended without pay by the University of Texas. Trew later claimed that Beard was acting in self-defense and that he never strangled her, stating "As Chris' fiancé and biggest supporter, I apologize for the role I played in this unfortunate event. I realize that my frustration, when breaking his glasses, initiated a physical struggle between Chris and myself. Chris did not strangle me, and I told that to law enforcement that evening. Chris has stated that he was acting in self-defense, and I do not refute that. I do not believe Chris was trying to intentionally harm me in any way. It was never my intent to have him arrested or prosecuted."

1. Beard is a great coach
2. When he got fired from Texas, they really didn’t have any choice and did what any major AD would have done.
3. A&M needs something to to hopefully make a splash regarding the perception of their AD.
4. A&M does have some cash flow issues in the short term if you are looking at the potential House-NIL settlement plus continuing to pay out Jimbo.
5. Cash flow should never be the main limiting factor in a deal like this.

So really it’s up to Beard and is it worth going to A&M now or waiting a year more at Ole Miss and reassessing the landscape.

Aggie, you're not hearing us. We said go hire him.

Quit justifying a straw man.

OM would owe him $20 if he was fired. If he leaves, the buyout is just under $5 million.

and an almost 20 million buyout

If Beard were to move on during the remainder of the first year of his contract, he would owe the Ole Miss Athletic Foundation $4,500,000. That amount drops to $3,500,000 in the second year and $2,500,000 in the third year before stabilizing at $1,000,000 for the final three years of Beard's deal. If athletic director Keith Carter and University Chancellor Glenn Boyce are no longer employed in their respective positions, Beard's buyout is cut in half.
