Many believe Nick Saban left Kalen DeBoer a stocked cupboard when he left.
A deeper dive of skill position players drafted since 2023 tells a different story.
Alabama has had five WRs and RBs drafted in the last four drafts. Total.
Wide Receivers:
2024: Jermaine Burton – Round 3, Pick 80 (Cincinnati Bengals) - Georgia transfer
2026: Germie Bernard – Round 2, Pick 47 (Pittsburgh Steelers) - DeBoer brought him with him from Washington
Note: No Alabama WRs were selected in the 2023 or 2025 drafts.
Running Backs:
2023: Jahmyr Gibbs – Round 1, Pick 12 (Detroit Lions) - Georgia Tech transfer
2024: Jase McClellan – Round 6, Pick 186 (Atlanta Falcons)
2026: Jam Miller – Round 7, Pick 245 (New England Patriots)
Note: No Alabama RBs were selected in the 2025 draft.

Nevermind Crowell. Unheralded 3* recruit and Boise flip Traeshawn Brown is better than any RB we had on the roster for 2023-2025.
DeBoer inhereted some defensive talent, but it was rough on offense.

And sadly, he really didn't even inherit any of the key defensive players from the previous season (Arnold, Kool-Aid, Turner, Downs, Key, Eboigbe, Braswell, etc.).

Since 2020 Saban gave up 46 to UF, 48 to Ole Miss, 41 to Aggie, and 52 to Tenner.
Deboer has given up 40 once at BAMA.
7x in his head coaching career dating back to Sioux Falls.
Saban gave up 40 or more 27x in his career. 10 of those while at Michigan State.
People that dog Deboer for 38-3 act like 44-16 didnt happen to Saban. And if you compare rosters... FFS it isn't even close. Saban's loss to Clemson is much more embarrassing than anything that has happened to Deboer.
I'm kinda liking Deboer's defense.

They’ve given up some big plays, but they’ve also made some big plays. 4 pick 6s if I’m not mistaken. Create a lot of turnovers and get after the quarterback. Run defense looks a lot better this season as well

Go post this on the SECR. According to those guys, DeBoer walked into a gold mine and everything was all fine. It was a smooth transition, nevermind losing 40+ players in his first season. He didn't have to rebuild anything.
On a real not, our best offensive players have been DeBoer guys since he's been here. Germie, Keelon > Ty > Milroe, our RB's already look worlds better than what he was left with, etc.
This staff seems to have an eye for offensive talent and can spot the under the radar type guys

It's year 3. I'd imagine 80% of most teams' players after that long are not from the original recruiting class. This is DeBoer's team and his guys.

Deboer style is to be efficient on offense rather than relying on big plays. He was top 5 in OFEI his last two years at Washington. Best defense is an efficient offense. We were actually #11 last year with ZERO run game.

Yep. And it has made a difference, which is they are putting up the numbers they are putting up. You essentially have better QB play, better WR's, better RB's, better OL. It's all around better than anything we've had recently. He actually has his own players in place that fit more of what he wants to do.
