Many believe Nick Saban left Kalen DeBoer a stocked cupboard when he left.
A deeper dive of skill position players drafted since 2023 tells a different story.
Alabama has had five WRs and RBs drafted in the last four drafts. Total.
Wide Receivers:
2024: Jermaine Burton – Round 3, Pick 80 (Cincinnati Bengals) - Georgia transfer
2026: Germie Bernard – Round 2, Pick 47 (Pittsburgh Steelers) - DeBoer brought him with him from Washington
Note: No Alabama WRs were selected in the 2023 or 2025 drafts.
Running Backs:
2023: Jahmyr Gibbs – Round 1, Pick 12 (Detroit Lions) - Georgia Tech transfer
2024: Jase McClellan – Round 6, Pick 186 (Atlanta Falcons)
2026: Jam Miller – Round 7, Pick 245 (New England Patriots)
Note: No Alabama RBs were selected in the 2025 draft.

he did leave it bare. Most of the key guys were transfers ….Bernard and Gibbs. Those other running backs are not note worthy .

Did Bama have some players transfer out? Should probably mention that one way or the other.

So the Bama faithful are turning on Saban now?

No, he retired without dragging the program down like many others do in old age. Like most things with Saban, he did it perfectly.
It's disputing a myth about the state of the program in 2024.

It was in much, much better shape than when Saban inherited it and that’s what most dispute with Bama fans.

This woe is me shite from Bama is unbecoming. These mother frickers had top 2 recruiting classes for a decade and want to convince the rest of the college football world it's Saban's fault DeBoer hasn't won a championship yet.
I can honestly say this was nowhere on my bingo card.

I've never once heard anyone say that.

If you think football is about just having highly recruited football classes, then you probably learned from Mack Brown and Jimbo Fisher.

Well right, but nobody is arguing that DeBoer inherited a Shula and sanctions roster. People are acting like he inherited a mid-2010s Alabama roster and judging his performance couched in that assumption.
End-stages Saban didn’t even have a prime Saban roster. They basically didn’t sign a single HS prospect that was a NFL quality skill position player after John Metchie in 2019. Stopped signing good interior lineman around the time Golding took over DC because he loved a 2-4-5 base defense that wasn’t great at featuring those body types.

Draft rankings don't mean shite. Aaron Murray was arguably the best QB we've ever had and only lasted 5 minutes in the NFL. Terrence Edwards left UGA as the best wr in our history and only played professionally in canada. Saban may not have left Deboer with a roster as stacked as his prime ones but let's not act like it was shula grade either
