UT last won a championship in 1998.

SEC is only doing this cause they want a maroon matchup every year

Part of this was because people were speculating the top half of the league would only have to play one other upper echelon team as a permanent. So Georgia would get Auburn and Bama would get TN. LSU would get aTm, then their scheduled would be two other lower tier teams. That was all speculation at the beginning. I want to keep rivalries intact just because it is what makes CFB great but if we’re honest, once Saban leaves the LSU Bama game will resort back to a game that is won by whichever team every other year and it just becomes a game between two good teams. It is not historically a rivalry. ATM is the most natural rivalry for LSU because of their history and I get OM as well. For a while when Auburn and Bama couldn’t play well together I was ready to end that rivalry or not make it a yearly thing anyway.

I believe the prediction has always been that the the top eight teams would have two permanent opponents from the upper half if a nine game schedule was adopted.

Correct, that's why you're 7-9 against us, 2-5 over the last 7 years.

I wouldn't say that's why. I'd give yourself credit. Yall usually play us very well.

The big surprise on that list for me is OU-Florida as perm opponents. Interesting.

Poor Auburn....their 3 perm opponents are Bama, UGA and Vandy.

Auburn doesn't lead the series at all among those three -- yes, including Vandy!

Not excited about Vandy. Yeah, it is a bit of a relief considering our two other permanent rivals are Bama & Georgia. But I’d rather we kept Miss State. That’s a good solid rivalry IMO.

I'd say Vandy is a sure-bet rivalry for Auburn considering that the series is tied, 21-21-1.

Bama ain’t losing the Auburn game in any scenario plus by hiring Hugh freeze there is a good chance they’ll be searching for a new coach soon

There’s 9 teams who have a claim to be “top eight”. There was always one who was going to be treated as a little 8 team for scheduling purposes.

Turns out that school is Tennessee

Nothing finalized yet.

I am hoping that the backlash and lack of sound arguments leads to a pure geographical determination of opponents.

Either go two divisions with MS/AL being the dividing line, easily the cleanest. Also quite balanced on historical status.

Or four location based matchups/pods to occur ever year:

TAM, Mizzou, OU, UT
LSU, Ark, OM, MsSt
AL, Aub, Tenn, Vandy
Fla, UGA, SoCar, UK

If you don't go purely geographically someone is going to get fricked, it is as simple as that.

I know! Let LSU and Florida continue, and pair Okie with aggee.

A&M v Arkansas dates back to SWC days. It’s a nice annual matchup.

Plus we’ve discussed for years that the Jerryworld game should be on campus for home and home…

The pod idea is completely dead. I don't know why people continue to bring it up.

Never going to happen.

Lsu and A&M have been playing each other since 1899. We've played each other 61 times in 12 different decades. Its currently played during rivalry week.

Despite sharing the same conference, Lsu-UF has only been played 8 more times than A&M-Lsu. It's about as evenly matched as it gets 33-33-3. It would make sense to keep.

Here is what doesn't make sense. OU vs A&M. It's only been played 31 times. The series has a 30+ year and 40+ year gaps in the series. If A&M is ranking opponents to play yearly, I doubt OU makes the top half.

IDK why people put us with OU/Mizzou

We don't want to be with OU, We have no history with OU, so put that to rest

A lot of people seem to confuse Texas/Oklahoma being a regular game to Oklahoma being in the SWC or something.
