re: If Oklahoma joined SEC every team/school would literally lose money.

In Texas kids already know about SEC football/recruiting. Many are already recruited by most SEC schools. Only reason kids stay in Texas to play in Big 12 is for family to watch them play, to low income for travel and guaranteed starting position. That is something that will never change no matter what the situation.

SWC had a TX monopoly
B12 had a TX monopoly
SEC got in Houston with TAMU, no longer a monopoly
Never say never because you will often be proven wrong as things change. 15 years from now the kids being recruited will have grown up in an environment where TX was not a monopoly of a single conference.

comparing which is better, Oklahoma or Missouri is like asking which midget is the tallest

Do non Texas SEC schools plan on moving their campuses to Texas? That aint ever changing unless you plan on uprooting an entire recruits family.

This is a very interesting comment. I think you may be on to something in say 10 years. Doing now would be forward thinking, but currently, you're taking a hit which would be very hard to sell.
ESPN troubles are bound to trickle to college football. Digital media will be real interesting

Doubtful OU would make the kind of impact. You'd need to snag a Texas school.
With OU the SEC locks down the DFW market

We should let them fight it out.
An old school duel, three paces, syringes at dawn.
Its the only reasonable answer.

B.S.
To Farmer 1906 or whatever: Oklahoma wanted the ability to form their own network (and they did). They just didn't get near the money nor exclusivity, hence their stinging butthurt that masked their hypocrisy.
Also, the Big 12 football championship returns this season. I believe it could mean an additional $2 million per Big 12 team in TV money (which is the reason they did it).

Why would the SEC want OU? They are out of market. Same way Mizzou and TAMU should have never been invited. To be honest, Im still pissed Arkansas is in the SEC.
The SEC should have made a better run at FSU and Clemson and gotten back Ga Tech.

They bring nothing to the table financially plus have to split up revenue. Meaning loss of dollars from every school not to mention stealing your recruits. Why in this beautiful green earth would people want them to join?
because of competition. As a player i always wanted to play the best. That's when it is the most fun. I really dont think that if OU were to join the SEC they would destroy recruiting for everyone else. It may not give an advantage to lets say lsu or TAMU, but it would not destroy the recruiting. And money would not be lost because of the TV deals and all of the other contracts with the SEC.

thought Okla St. had a pretty good athletic dept...hell, I know they got a shite load of oil $$$$$. T. Boone could buy the damn conferenc
They have one of the best athletic departments. Successful teams. Make money.
We are just a small fanbase in a state where there is a clear #1.
It is funny to hear some fans on here talk like Oklahoma State has some shite athletic department, when it is currently stronger than the majority of depts in the SEC.
We're not a big player because of population and OU having such a big share of the state. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Hell, I'd be for both schools joining the SEC.

For A&M it could either help or hurt us.
If OU comes with Texas, we are boned.
If OU comes and still plays Texas we are boned. They will simply take the best of the state with Texas and leave us the scraps ala the entire Big 12 era when we were there.
If OU comes and Texas won't play them it would be huge for us because it would allow us to join forces with OU to bury the Texas brand.

I asked in other thread, but in a cord cutting a la cart tv model is OU more valuable?
Yes, I think so. I still wouldn't want them, but if college sports goes a la carte then the argument for state population goes away and the interest in a specific school goes up, both of which favor OU.
But if that really happens I think many of us will find different things to do on Saturdays, because we're gonna be screwed on the costs. Either that or the conference takes go way down.

Why? Because you should have made more money per subscriber for the SEC network by having one more school in the states of Florida and South Carolina? Does the SEC Network make more money per subscriber in the states of Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee because they have two schools in those states.
The answer is "NO" and you suck at math.
I'm proud that TAMU is in the SEC. We should have been here all along.

If the XII Championship returns it will be a snooze fest because it will always be a rematch. Some years, you will have OU/OSU the week right after you just had OU/OSU.
And then what happens when you have an undefeated tu team, 12-0, have to play a rematch with a 9-3 KU team that is in a 3 way tie for second place? And then they beat you in the Championship "rematch" Game?
Yeah, that extra game sure is a great idea!

They'll get more money for the game but I agree. This has all the markings of "one true champion" biting them in the butt again.

Missouri Population: 6 M Oklahoma Population: <4 M The end
MO has 5 pro sports teams including the second most dominant franchise in baseball history, and the Chiefs. I live in KC and nobody on this side of the state watches MU athletics. MU has a very isolated following in the NE part of the state hence the half empty stadium you see 80% of the time. I see more sporting KC soccer merch than Mizzou merch and it's not even close.
OU on the other hand is THE program and major draw for their entire state including the OKC metro and a huge alumni base and following in Dallas.
OU would bring a top 3 BBall program, top 2 football program(top 5 in revenue), top 3 baseball program, and top gymnastics program to the SEC.

Butts in seats doesn't add to the conference coffers. Cable tv subscriptions, whether they watch the SEC Network or not, pays the subscriber fees inside the footprint.
Don't you Okies know this by now?

Butts in seats are typically a reflection of cable subs...one fanbase sells out an 90k stadium every game every year, the other can't fill their 60k seat stadium for a prime time game.
