Second year: 10-2, quarterfinal loss
Will he be on the hot seat going into year 3? I don’t think he should be, but I’m not sure LSU fans are much more rational than the gumps.

Probably from the casuals yes, but people who really know the game and can recognize progress they'll understand.

Here’s a better question for the Reb/Bears:
If Golding goes 8-4 this year and 7-5 next year, is he on the hot seat? Or is that acceptable for OM given its historical success?

8-4 no given how hard the schedule is.
7-5 and he is getting some side eye unless there were injury issues.
But then again we aren’t paying $50 million for our roster, $4 million for coordinators, and $40 million to the coach we fired. So we can afford to be more rational.

Yes, spending money like a drunk sailor is the hallmark of a well run program 
Our roster is probably $35-40 mil and coordinators are up and comers so it’s not like we’re falling behind.
If LSU get to a natty I’m sure it will be worth it. I’m just saying spending that much creates expectations that even a good coach isn’t guaranteed to meet. Too many variables outside his control.

If Ole Miss has sustained success without spending money the top programs are spending, then you might have a point. But it's very clear, now more than ever, that it's going to take investment to have sustained success.
Your most successful coach in program history just left for another program. We can all speculate as to why, but he himself stated that LSU's resources were a large driver in that decision. The idea that you can find a bargain coaching staff and bargain roster and win championships is a pipe dream. Every now and then lightening may strike (see Ed Orgeron), but competing year in and year out is going to be very difficult.

We can afford rationality since I’m told we can’t afford anything else.

Better question, if PG goes 11-1 and 10-2, will you try and hire him when you fire LK for cause, I am sure you already have a folder of crap you can fire him for.

I keep seeing you LSU fans repeating this narrative but the most successful coach in program history for Ole Miss is Johnny Vaught and it's not close. If Kiffin had stayed maybe he would have surpassed him one day but he didn't accomplish a fraction of what Vaught did in Oxford.

If Golding goes 8-4 with a healthy team, he'll enter next year on the warm seat and 7-5 may get him canned. The schedule is tough though.
If Trindad tears his ACL against Louisville and he goes 8-4 with this schedule, I'll actually be impressed.

As much shite as LSU fans have talked since hiring Lane, with as much crowing about how much money the have, anything less than an undefeated season ending with the national championship is going to be viewed by the Tiger faithful as an act of intentional betrayal by Lane.
