If Kentucky were doing what Arkansas has been doing for over a 1/4 century.

Would they see themselves as a "SEC Blueblood" Basketball program?

Arkansas - SEC Championships* the last Twenty-five years (25) = ZERO (0)

SEC Champs last 25 years
Kentucky - 12
Florida - 6
LSU - 4
Tennessee - 3
Auburn - 2
Alabama - 1
Miss State - 1
South Carolina - 1

* Could be football too...but this is a basketball thread.

Arkansas does have a great history. They finally have the right coach now to get it done. The last couple of decades have been rough.

Miss State, Alabama, South Carolina and Texas AM have more BB success and relevant "history" in the last 25 years as they have won the conference in that time frame at least one time.

Unfortunately for you history doesn't limit itself to just 25 years. The success happened and there is no taking it way. So trying to troll Arkansas about something achieved 25 years ago is a ridiculously stupid. Ya it's been a while since we've been ourselves but history does have a way of repeating itself so don't get butt hurt when we start winning on a high level again.

I get what you are saying, but winning the NCAA Tournament is a huge accomplishment that very few teams ever do. It is an automatic qualifier for favored status.

Would Arkansas trade their NCAA title for 4 SEC regular season championships in the last 25 years? Not a chance.

I mean, we are second in the conference in final four appearances. I'll take that over being an SEC champ.

We'll be fine once Musselman gets players on the team taller than 6'6".

Our 5th ranked recruiting class next year already addresses that.

I think that it's fair to acknowledge and congratulate them on their past success while also pointing out how much they've struggled this century. The two don't have to be mutually exclusive.

They're a lot like Tennessee football in that respect. They still have more accolades and a much richer history than 90% of their peers, but they've been down for such a long time that they're an easy target right now.

Luckily for both I think that brighter days are ahead of them.

Nolans teams were great. I miss them.

I think Musselman will return them to national relevance. Besides Arkansas was robbed against UNC in the NCAA by the officials. Not really relevant here but I wanted to point it out anyway.

The biggest reason for the decline is they were reeling from the Nolan firing. That sounds like a bad excuse but it caused the brass to make bad after bad decisions. We are suffering the same way that Indiana are enduring, lost with no identity and still living in the past.

When Nolan was fired and were taken to court, Arkansas was looking at a public relations nightmare. So they hired a black coach to save face and that was Stan Heath. Nolan couldn't prove the allegations and the case was tossed.

Stan Heath had one year of coaching experience and steadily was improving the program. He was fired right after he was told that his job was safe. Back to back NCAA appearances wasn't good enough.

Billy Clyde was the top target but went to Kentucky. Dana Altman was the target and was hired. Arkansas was in a big academic mess and so Altman was told by Broyles that he could bring his academic staff. But John White said no. Altman was so upset that he left after 24 hours on the job. It was the strangest day in razorback history.

Frank Broyles had enough and went to Augusta to play golf. Arkansas was scrambling once again. John White hired a search committee and it ended up with John Pelphrey. That was a disaster and he was fired after four years.

Mike Anderson was hired after pressure from the fans. Arkansas fans thought he was next coming of Nolan but they were dead wrong. He didn't have a chip on his shoulder unlike Nolan that made his team's play with anger. It took him four years to make the tournament but he was inconsistent and failed to make it each year. He failed to get the best players from Arkansas such as McBride,Vanover and others. The recruiting was inconsistent and led to poor recruiting tactics.

Jeff Long was fired after rumors of mishandling funds. But I'm not sure though. Hunter Yuracheck was hired. Mike Anderson was on the warm seat but it was getting hotter and Hunter was watching practices. After the season was over, Anderson was asked tough questions regarding the future. He couldn't answer the questions and he was fired. Hunter fired him after one year on the job.

Hunter hired Eric Musselman. Arkansas has finally put the past behind them and has stopped living in the past. Arkansas finally has a new identity.

In Anderson's last 5 years, we had the 3rd best record in the SEC behind Kentucky and Florida.

So it's not like we've been awful, we just haven't been able to do anything in the tournament for one reason or another. South Carolina for example went to a final four but pretty much every other year we've had has been better than them. Just depends if you'd rather be consistently average-above average or fluctuate between really bad and really good.
