Regardless of the money, Pelini had no clue a worldwide Covid Pandemic was about to transpire. I mean, none of us alive had ever lived through a worldwide pandemic. So how was he supposed to know beforehand everything that would transpire? You're just a fricking narrow-minded hater and a dumb low-information loser!

well, his first tenure at LSU got them to a #3 defense and a natty

His first year at LSU got yall a #3 defense and a national champ

Seemed to me the new offenses the SEC teams were running caught him off guard. He did well during his first tenure were it was all ground and pound. Not so well when the QB's are slinging it.

Had good defenses in the big 12. Went through the fanbase with the most unrealistic expectations in the country (Nebraska has not even been close to the level he had them at since he left). Finally he became the scapegoat for a program that appears to have severe problems with authority and not sexually assaulting people and pretends defense is its biggest problem.
Bo might be crazy. But all his schools have been just as crazy as him.

Yep. He was past his sell by date. The SEC, more even than the NFL, moves at a high pace when it comes to innovation. Bama could bring back the wishbone this year, win a natty with it, and by next year 75% of the teams in the SEC would be running it.
You can't run a defense based on what people were doing 10+ years ago in the SEC.

Really? When? Were you a fly on a wall? Who told you this? Obviously, you are making idiotic assumptions you have no clue about because you hate Ed O.
eh, there were some quotes to this effect last year
quote:
“It’s a big difference,” Pelini said to the LSU Radio Network via The Advertiser. “We have guys that were recruited to play in a 3-4. It’s not exactly the type of personnel you would recruit to play in a 4-3. It’s really foreign to those guys as far as the understanding of linebackers playing off the football. Then your down guys are playing different techniques and gaps, and it takes some time. And it takes some time for us as coaches to learn what your guys can do and what they can’t do.”
However, LSU coach Ed Orgeron doesn’t agree with Pelini’s assessment for a specific reason.
“I don’t think that has a lot to do with it,” Orgeron said during Wednesday’s SEC coaches teleconference, via the The Advertiser. “Because of the fact that most of our mistakes were on explosive passes in the coverage. Now, whether you’re playing a 3-4 or a 4-3, the same coverages can still be run out of both fronts.”

Farewell Bo. Be nice to your cat.
KJ Costello misses him dearly.

Last year, the players were all lost in space because they didn't know the defense. I mean you can only teach so much via Zoom. Not to mention that there were also no practice reps. Well then, it's easy to see how the defensive fiasco that was last year happened. I know Bo Pelini is the scapegoat and gets all the blame for the fiasco on defense last season, but honestly, I'm not so sure that anyone else given the set of circumstances could have done any better. Indeed, I think attempting to transition from a 3-4 defense to a 4-3 defense during an unforeseen Covid Pandemic fluke year is the culprit for last season more than it was Bo Pelini, Ed O, or anything else.
Maybe I would buy this except if Bo Pelini’s defenses weren’t routinely getting torched year after year, game after game, against misdirection based, up tempo offenses prior to his most recent stint at LSU.
We got lit up against these offenses when he was our D coordinator. He got lit up outside of 1 year at Nebraska where he had Suh. And there is a reason he was at Youngstown state and nobody else would touch him.
He, like miles, coached an old form of football.

No, do you remember Lou Tepper? The game just passed Bo up and his inability to communicate in today's world was his down fall.

A kindergartener arranging traffic cones before the snap would have been a more effective defense

What specific offenses lit up Pelini at LSU from 2005-2007?
2005:
266 ypg
175 pass ypg
91 rush ypg
14.2 point pg
2006:
242 ypg
145 pass ypg
97 rush ypg
12.6 points pg
2007:
288 ypg
182 pass ypg
106 rush ypg
19.9 point spg
The only poor defensive performances I can recall in his 3 years was Arkansas 2007 and Arkansas 2006. And really Arkansas 2006 wasn't that bad. Arkansas had 360 yards and 26 points.
Against Tim Tebow's high powered offense in 2007, he limited Tebow to 12/26 and 158 yards passing and Florida to 165 yards rushing on 32 attempts
We did not get lit up by offenses when he was DC in his first stint. Having a bad game or 2 out of 40 total games is pretty damn good.

Yes, in 2020, he was still coaching like it was 15 years prior.

If I were rooting for your team, I’d hate to see him go also.

If that's the case then Eaux should have fired his arse after State and taken over the Defense himself.
that's inexcusable weakness from a head man.
