They need to let defenses play like they used to. The rules are geared toward offense.

Y'all need to let this idea go. Yeah, it's not near as much fun without a WR getting knocked out.

CTE is not going to stop being a thing.

I miss it, too. I'm afraid we've seen the last of those days. They say that offense sells tickets, but there's gotta be a limit somewhere.

I like the idea of grounding being enforced outside the tackle box.

Also agree that lineman should only be 1 yard downfield.

Other ideas I like but sense would receive too much negative feedback:

(1) Defensive holding/pass interference should only be an automatic first down if the 5/15 yards would have resulted in a 1st down. Seen too many bullshite "holds" on 3rd and 12 because a DB sneezed on a receiver the QB never even looked at. Give them the yards and replay the down.

(2) Eliminate targeting entirely, just flag dirty hits for unnecessary roughness and eject players if they receive 2 in a game. Conferences should suspend players (up to the entire season) if they get 4 or 5 in aggregate for the year.

(3) Allow minimum 10 seconds for defensive substitutions on every play. Offense is already favored for the first 58 minutes, do we really need to preserve yet another advantage for the offense in late game scenarios in case they've still failed to gain a lead?

(4) Actually call offensive holding.

9-6 was one of the greatest displays of smash mouth defense that I’ve ever witnessed.

I think you just gave yourself a flag for 12 men on the field.

I couldn't agree more. The rules of the game have ruined football.

Targeting is BS too. The rule should he called "targeting" for a reason. If a defender "targets" the defenseless player with the football then call targeting, but I see way too many calls where an offensive player lowers his head TO DEFEND HIMSELF and the defensive player gets thrown out of the game for a making his best effort to be legal while completing the tackle. There are other examples, this is just one, but it's total BS. Football will be some sort of evolved pillow fighting in a decade.

Allowing lineman 3 yards down the field on pass plays is one rule they could change that would make a huge difference.

If they are going to allow the rule as it it should still be reviewable. The kick six happened because Auburn had men like 8 yards downfield on the game tying touchdown. Same thing happened in the 2015 Ole Miss game where Kelly was initially flagged for being across the LOS but replay said he wasn't.

I also think penalties in general need a big overhaul. Too many defensive penalties come with an automatic first down. If you want to leav it that way fine, but then the offense version should come with a loss of down then. If defensive PI is going to always be an automatic first down then offensive PI should come with a loss of down IMO.

And I'm so tired of every time a receiver doesn't catch a pass the first thing they do is ask for a flag

Meh he held LSU to their lowest point total in 2019 but Alabama has scored 40+ on them 3 straight years.

Right there with you on defense and first memories of the 92 defense. I don't even like watching most games like I used to. If it's not Bama, a rival, or a big game, I don't watch like I used to. Basketball on grass just isn't enjoyable to me.

I've enjoyed our play action of 2020 more than the RPOs of recent years.

It'd be nice if some actual scientific evidence connected CTE to football.

Yet soccer, the most popular game in the world, is filled with 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2 type games.

Bring back the tear away jersey and the quick kick

Oh and place the ball on the 20 on any touchback.

Found Pruitt’s rant handle HunH and RPO aren’t newfangled systems.

Of course this also isn’t the first time offenses out talented defenses or that the game skewed towards offensive play. Although he was hardly alone or even the first, for a board full of guys who praise Spurrier for his cutting edge elementary school one liners, many ignore that he was ingeniously funning and gunning in the 90s against antique defenses who were filled with guys who could only run stop and who found themselves on d because they weren’t considered athletic enough for offense. (Now that idea of putting your less talented players on d is rightfully considered horrible).

Defenses caught up by putting athletes on defense that could compete and adding more complexity to defenses. As a consequence now offenses are implementing things those talented defenders can’t just rely on talent and no thinking to stop.

Defenses will catch up again and then offenses will innovate to regain the advantage. Wash, rinse, repeat.

The days of boring arse football consisting of 3 runs up the middle being common are gone and for many teams they’ve been gone for several decades. Be glad for that. Football has been a much better sport since the forward pass became popular.

Didn’t they score twice on defense last year and beat y’all?

It was this “greatest team ever” you have now just with 9 more NFL guys including 4 - 1st rounders
