I found some UGA yearbooks from 1947-1950 and thought the board might like some pictures

There are future Auburn and Alabama head coaches in the first picture.

Maybe I'm wrong in assuming they are typical college age, but it always surprises me seeing 18-22 year olds from the 50's looking like they are in their late 30's.

Anyway, thanks for sharing. Good stuff.

As a matter of fact, many college students around the South in the 50s were actually approaching their late 20s or early 30s as many were attending college on the GI Bill. This was true of my grandfather and all of his friends who went into the army straight out of HS and then attended school thereafter. Also explains why so many men were older than women in some marriages as these mid to late 20 years old men were meeting marrying sorority girls in their early 20s

Makes sense. That said, my grandfathers both looked like grown arse men in their late teens.

Could you imagine having already lived an army life before going off to college to learn to be a businessman or a lawyer or whatever and that being the normal experience?

Nowadays it’s kind of an impressive oddity for vets to transition from enlistment to college life and it’s so far from the norm that they typically have special services or centers set up to assist them in making the transition without feeling ostracized on a campus full of 18-19 year olds (or at least uga does)

UGA yearbooks from 1947-1950

Those years are closer to UGA's last national title in 1980 than we are now in 2018

Coach Shug was a war hero in Europe and the Pacific. He was a SEC head basketball coach and won a National Championship as an SEC head football coach. GOAT!

You're right. That's exactly right. I had family who went to college on the G.I. Bill after WWII and Korean and even Vietnam who played ball in their late twenties.
