Ya, if only LSU could be as dominant as San Diego State’s D. Whatever. Some people are too stupid to be handed metrics.

if you will review the thread before your post you'll see that most of us are actually having a civil discussion about football. You should try it sometime.

You think the differences between #4 and #8 are statistically significant?

The opponents have something to do with those numbers as well.

Well when your offense’s average scoring drive is 5 plays, their defense tend to get tired not getting a lot of rest...

This D has been going HAM since OM. They were getting used to playing more zone earlier in the season which opened up holes. Those holes are no longer there. It was great planning by Aranda. He knew the type of D he needed to get this far, just took our guys a while to get it down and we need a healthy Delpit.

It looks to me like LSU's defense made a lot of improvement in the back half of the year. They went from allowing 24 PPG through the Ole Miss game to 16 PPG the last four games of the season.

Granted the average offensive ranking of those last four teams was around 60 vs the offensive ranking of the first 9 teams at 50.

LSU is talented on defense especially at corner, so I am not sure with Dave Aranda why they haven't been better on D throughout the year.

They're good enough. The defense didn't have a full healthy roster until after the Ole Miss game. All I care about is how they're playing lately. In the last six games, they've been very good.............and that's enough to win a national championship.

Cool, bro. Yet, LSU held each of those four teams 90 to 215 yards below their season average on offense, all of which were below LSU's average yards allowed on the season.

Meanwhile, Clemson's defense seems to be sputtering a bit down the stretch, with both UVA and OSU going for over a 120 yards (UVA) and 250 yards (OSU) above what Clemson gives up on average.

Though, the two games before that, Clemson dominated South Carolina and, especially, Wake Forest.

Throughout the season, Clemson has faced comparable offenses to LSU, and has put up better numbers. The offensive rank average of Clemson's opponents is 57.9, with LSU's opponent rank average coming in at 58.7. However, LSU has faced superior defenses. LSU's opponent defensive rank average comes in at 58, while Clemson's is 71.6.

LSU and Clemson have both faced four top 30 offenses. However, LSU has faced five top 30 defenses, Clemson has only faced 2. Texas A&M is number 30, so they count in both totals.

Seems like Clemson's offensive numbers may be a tad more inflated compared to LSU's.

LSU gained more yards than what their opponents allow on average in every game this season, smallest margin was Mississippi State (+13.8) and largest was OU (+335.6). Clemson was held below UNC's season average yards allowed (-42.2), but was above opponents' averages of yards allowed in all other games (highest UVA, +247.1).

What's all this mean come Monday?

Not a lot, Clemson is a great team and has proved as much over the last half decade. Shouldn't be an easy affair (though LSU pulling away wouldn't surprise me, yet I was very surprised by Clemson's rout of Bama last year), but I believe the difference between LSU's offense and Clemson's defense is greater than the difference between Clemson's offense and LSU's defense.

LSU defense just got healthy the last few games and it’s made a big difference. Yards per play is still high as they were giving up big gains throughout the season, but they have been good on 3rd down defense all year. The most important thing is for them to get the ball back to our offense.

Interesting to see LSU only 2.9 yards per game behind Auburn.

I’m surprised Alabama fans still wake up and think about LSU once their season is over

I don't think the defense was prepared for the fast tempo and scoring of the offense. Also had a ton of injuries early on.

You saw them settle in as the year progressed

Hahaha look at the number of plays we have defended! WOW. And we know this is not because the offense was going 3 and out a lot. Dude, the LSU defense is much better than the statistics. Clemson about to find out like UGA and OU.

Does not matter if they are the worse defense in the SEC, as long as they are the best defense Monday night.

Injuries always hurt teams.

Grant is finally healthy with the rest he got.

I know that a lot of Alabama fans used to say that fast paced spread offenses affect a team's own defense. Now, since our own team is running that type offense, our defense in fact isn't as good. A lot of us blame Golding, but I think the type offense does indeed affect the team's defense.

That was a huge problem early in the year. LSU had a few injuries which cut into the depth and before you knew it players were sucking wind in the 2nd quarter.
