re: Williams UCONN recruiting video

No, there's no evidence that she's a "natural point guard". I think she can BECOME a good point guard, but as of now it remains to be seen. She's careless with the ball and hasn't shown propensity to be a ball distributor, other than trying to wow the crowd with a pass. It WILL take a shift in mentality for her to master the position. I believe she can do it, but we could've had Richard start there this season and been fine. Again, there's NO ONE on our roster like Williams. Having her would've made us an instant final four contender. As the roster looks right now, it looks like another elite eight at the most, for the coming season.

Yea, I don't agree with that. Fulwiley is a more EXCITING player than Williams. But, Williams is at a position we needed more. I think Fulwiley can be a good fit at PG, while sharing the minutes there with Richard. But we don't have ANYONE on the roster like Williams. Her presence would've alleviated a lot of pressure on Koval and Knox, for that matter.

Oh I’m sure she’ll find a couple Amani Bartlett-level warm bodies but all the contributing bigs we will have are now on the roster.

It pisses some of these guys off when I say this but yes, us missing Serah Williams is an unmitigated disaster. And unfortunately, we put ourselves in the position for it to be so.

It is in no way, shape or form a "disaster".

It IS disappointing, however, considering the post depth.

frick. We are disastrously short handed in the front court. This is likely a Sweet Sixteen team but that is not certain.

Goddamn motherfricker. Another Redus second place finish on the big fish.

Come on now..............................let's not exaggerate because we lost one player. This is the same man who got us Reese, Morrow, Van Lith, and the two of the last three #1 HS recruiting classes. She chose a program with more tradition that is closer to her home. Not much can be done about that.

They’ll be back at the elite 8.

The post play development will determine final four or not. Talent wise collectively Joyner, Knox and Koval is an upgrade collectively relative to what we had last year outside of morrow. I like Samayah but she basically only gave LSU like 4-5 quality games over the better last season. She elected to leave to go make some cash.

Fulwiley was a big signing and I expect the freshmen class to play significant minutes and it should give LSU improved bench play.

Now they do need to add 1-2 more bigs to round out the roster but talent wise it’s still a top 10 team easily.

I completely agree. If we see an immense improvement in Koval from her freshman season, and Joyner turns out to be as good a Smith, we COULD make a final four. More than likely elite eight with this roster though................

Where'd you see this? I can't seem to find any news at all
Fulwiley would start at PG. There is no other "guard spot" for her to be a starter.
I still don't believe it till I see it..........................................

everyone shitting on Gilbert but no one seems to understand that you can improve. This was her first year in a new system

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree. Back in January, there were people on this board suggesting that Gilbert should be a starter over Williams. Now all of a sudden people want her to transfer. Yes, she took shots at inopportune times, but she can learn when and where to get her shots as she continues in the program. If she doesn't, Kim will reduce her minutes.

Correct that is what I read, it was combo Raven starting and bringing in Latson. That is why she is leaving. She waited patiently for 2 years for her turn and then this happened. Staley would have continued to sit her on the bench as 6th player.

I wouldn't be surprised. Raven Johnson is an EXCELLENT defender and distributor of the ball at the point. But she's a terrible jump shooter. But her defense and decision making is what keeps her in the starting lineup over Fulwiley. I can also understand Fulwiley being upset about the addition of Latson. Even if she started, Latson would get huge minutes at her expense.
Well, Del Rosario will have the same issues IF, the coaching there can't turn her around. I don't think she's too "slow-footed" to play in this league. If Oldacre at UT can play in the SEC, Del Rosario can. She just wasn't a good fit for us, but that doesn't mean another coaching staff can't get her to her full potential. I think a change of scenery will do her some good. I wish nothing but the best for her.

Yeah, I've already read multiple commenters saying Fulwiley can't play PG and LSU would be starting 3 SG's and it'd be another HVL situation.

Iirc, Fulwiley was the 2nd or 3rd ranked all-american PG in the Class of 2023, first of all. Secondly, I'm hard-pressed to name any guard in all of wbb with a better handle than Fulwiley. (Maybe Hidalgo?) Fulwiley's dribbling in & out of traffic are Kyrie-esque. Thirdly, her passing skills are at times Rondo-esque.

Now, her electric speed has gotten her too deep in the paint & caused some reckless TO's with late errant passes, but there's no question she can play PG.

I'm not so sure about that.

Yes, she definitely has the physical tools to play the position. However, does she have the MINDSET to do it? She literally has two first team all SEC players who average almost 20 ppg in the starting lineup. Can she defer to them and learn to be a playmaker / distributor, who can also score when needed? THAT, is the question.

However, I seriously doubt she'll end up at LSU.

The most important transfer we can get right now is SERAH WILLIAMS, period!
The Portal closes on April 23rd, so I imagine we're going to hear something in the next day or so.................................................

i only got to watch a few minutes but Aaliyah Chavez looked like a ball hog. I watched her team have about 10 possessions and it seemed like she took 7 shots.

She does have that reputation and it is rumored that this is the reason that three of our current recruits didn't want to play with her. If we'd gotten her, at least three of them were probably not coming to LSU.
Wow, some of you really went off on a tangent. The bottom line, did you actually listen to the first ten minutes where she's talking about Redus and the on campus visit with Serah Williams, and then the follow up with Mikaylah? Jesus!

quote:

I'm sure Van Lith wasn't excited. The reason she didn't do well at LSU was because Mulkey made her dump the ball down to Reese at every opportunity. How many shots she gets to take will be a big deal and of course how many she makes.

Tell me you don't watch LSU basketball, without telling me you don't watch LSU basketball.
We definitely need Williams to complete this frontcourt. For those of you who hadn't seen or heard of her visit yesterday and today, here's a video I posted in another thread describing what's going on.....................

:geauxtigers:
Not sure if you watch this youtube show, but she does a very good job of discussing women's basketball. Watch the first ten minutes of the video. She does a great job of describing Serah Williams visit with LSU yesterday. Looks like we're putting on the full court press!!!

LET'S GEAUX!!!!
I think Richard has shown more than enough that she’s capable, in the limited minutes she played. We can’t go into the portal EVERY YEAR and never actually develop players. Just because someone doesn’t play heavy minutes as a freshman, especially at that position, doesn’t mean they’re not ready to be the starter their 2nd year.

In Richard you have the potential to have a three year starter at the position. Additionally, the other four starters will be veterans. She may take some lumps early next season, but by conference play I believe she can be a solid starter AND be a consistent scoring threat from that position………something we haven’t had there since Pointer and Morris were our point guards.

I have a feeling this is what we’re going to see, because the coaching staff and players are so high on her.
