Let's create 3 categories:

1. Would beat both OU and TX
2. Would beat either OU or TX
3. Would lose to both OU and TX

For simplicity, let's assume that the SEC school would get one game at home, one game on the road.

My groups are this:

Would beat both OU and TX:

Alabama
Georgia
Florida
Arkansas

Would beat either or:

Auburn
Kentucky
Ole Miss
Mississippi State
aTm

Would lose both:

LSU
Missouri
South Carolina
Tennessee
Vanderbilt

I might put Ole Miss in the would beat both category.

Oklahoma has a 5 point win against Tulane, an 8 point win against Nebraska, a 3 point win against WVU, and a 6 point win against Kansas State. Texas has a 19 point loss to Arkansas, and a 5 point win against TCU. I think the only two SEC teams you can really 100% mark down a loss to both are Vandy and Missouri. That Oklahoma has looked so bad on offense is honestly shocking

With our inconsistent play we could lose to a lot of those teams but would most likely beat all except Alabama and Georgia. Ou would be favored in all but those two games. Texas sucks and would loose to Vanderbilt.

Florida

You guys got a scare vs. Florida a few weeks ago, and this feels like a back-handed acknowledgement on your part. OU beat that Florida team 55-20 with the Bucs' 2nd round draft pick at QB for the Gators.

Arkansas.. yeah I don't know about that. Can't disagree with the rest.

Oklahoma is giving me huge fraud vibes. They cant run the ball and Rattler is the worst QB they've had under Riley. Their defense "seems" improved but we've all heard that story before

Rattler isn't the problem, it's the offensive line. They are playing terrible. Freshman at center and he's not getting the calls right. Miscommunication with the rest of the line and that is why we are struggling running the ball. Defense is improved but inconsistent as well. Especially the back 7. shite has to change or we lose a couple of games soon.

Ehhhhh...

I'm not seeing it. I think Arkansas and Ole Miss light you up. Your 43rd ranked defense isn't anywhere near the caliber of Georgia's; not look at Arkansas' game against them as some kind of indicator of how you'd go against them. You've been good against the run, but outside of Nebraska those have been very mediocre rush offenses (and Nebraska's numbers are padded thanks to two games against terribly bad teams). I don't think you shut them down as effectively as Georgia did (not even close) and your offense is terrible. Your offense is 55th against FBS teams - not even close to an Oklahoma offense - and that also bears mentioning that you've had to leave your offense in all game against all but one opponent (FCS Western Carolina).

You do realize that QB was surrounded by the scout team, right?

"OU beat THAT Florida team 55-20"... but then you admit that their QB isn't on the team anymore (let's just ignore the rest of the players that are gone that make it not "THAT" team any more)?

And how much mileage are you really going to try and get out of that Sugar Bowl. Florida was down their top 4 receivers. 61% of their receiving yards production and 74% of their receiving TD production. 2 first rounders did not play. I know you guys are looking for banners to hang up in the stadium these days but that game is not exactly hang your hat on worthy.

Nope. LSU is 100% a loss to both. We've been ready to kick your teeth in ever since you voted not to play us last year. I hope to God that O lasts until we're playing an SEC schedule.

A&M is also a loss to both. They have PTSD against us.

I'd bump Arkansas and Florida down a tier too. OU has a good shot against Arky just in general. We have a good shot against Arky at home. I'd say we're not good enough of a road team yet to go to Florida and win, but that's a much easier task than going to Arky and winning. (an actual rivalry game and not this SEC patty cake bullshite)

Bowl games are becoming worthless at this point..

I think a better idea going forward would be something like this..

1) Make the playoff (hopefully 8-12 teams)

or

2) Play a regional “rival”..

Examples:
Texas vs SMU
Florida vs UCF
Ohio State vs Cincinnati
Tennessee vs Memphis
Oregon vs Boise State

Basically a David vs Goliath game that will matter to both schools because of the regional appeal that you need to win for recruiting if nothing else..

No P5 school wants to lose to an in state G5 school.

Maybe this is a stupid idea, but something needs to be done.

As to the OP.. Texas would beat A&M and the other 13 would beat Texas. OU would lose all 14.

Yes, that's the excuse we heard for months after the game and I apologize for striking a nerve, that was not my intention.

OU had key players banged up & not available too.. it's not OU's fault the Gators were extremely thin at WR. That Gator team was 8-3 with some quality wins and coming off a SECCG appearance. THIS Gator team doesn't appear to be in the same league. So why suddenly would Florida be favored to beat either OU or TX right now? At the very least, it's debatable.

They weren't thin per se. Of their top 4 receivers, 3 opted out to prepare for the draft and a fourth tested positive for COVID. No one said it was OU's fault, but when an argument is framed that OU beat a 2nd round draft pick in a bowl game last year, a little context is probably necessary. That was not the same Florida offense that played the rest of that season.

LOL, now that you are playing the kid of the most infamous player in Oklahoma history instead of one of your home grown Austin boys....

There is no doubt you'd kick their behind.

Finishing in the Top 10 AP is still kinda important I feel like.. it’s crap compared to the playoff.. but at least it is something..

Maybe have bowl games for those spots?

AP 1 = Winner of NC game
AP 2 = Loser of NC Game

AP 3 = Winner of 3rd Place Game (new)
AP 4 = Loser of 3rd Place Game

AP 5 = Winner of 5 vs 6
AP 6 = Winner of 7 vs 8
AP 7 = 9 vs 10
AP 8 = 11 vs 12
AP 9 = 13 vs 14
AP 10 = 15 vs 16

Losers from above get AP 11 - AP 16

Maybe NIL could help with opt outs.. Play this bowl game and you will get $100k (stars).. maybe that number is too high or low..

All I know is that the bowl games used to mean something and it all sucks that they don’t anymore..

agree completely, but I don't really think there's any turning back now. Expanding the playoffs will only devalue the remaining bowl games even more. ANd you can't pay players enough NIL money to make them care because elite guys are still looking at a whole lot more in the draft than an NIL payment will ever pay them. It's honestly a cultural thing IMO. This generation of players have simply been programmed not to care about games once their teams are no longer playing for a national title. I think the money thing is just a hollow excuse.
